| About Porterville |
PORTERVILLE, California, population 38,795. Senior year of high school, Matthew White came across a four-track tape that classmate Samuel Bottoms had self-recorded and produced under the band name Leotard. Matt loved the music and phoned Sam. That night they wrote and recorded five songs before sunrise. After Matt met drummer Brian Fowler in a Wal-Mart parking lot, the trio came together and PORTERVILLE was born.
Los Angeles, California, population 3,849,368. PORTERVILLE reconvenes, continuing to evolve and refine its sound. With their rousing danceathon live show, PORTERVILLE has built a large and growing fan base (“Supporterville”) in Los Angeles and beyond, earning consistent airplay on L.A.’s influential Indie 103.1 in the process. The band has played shows with Blondie, the B-52s, Art Brut, Violent Femmes, Electric 6, No Age, Matt Costa, Daniel Lanois, Under the Influence of Giants, etc. The new self-titled PORTERVILLE album features big fan and Brit-rock hero Eddie Argos of Art Brut, who cameos with the lead vocal on Overfloatin’.
PORTERVILLE writes, records and produces its own music. The lyrics are poetic and heartfelt. You'll dance and think and remember and feel. The band's influences range from Prince to Pavement. Fine Street (featured in the film Fever Pitch) combines the stalker terror of Silence of the Lambs’ Buffalo Bill with the dance-rock beat of Talking Heads. The music of The Who and the poetry of Walt Whitman inspire the epic Apollo Says. Overfloatin’ echoes the heart-on-sleeve vulnerability of Lloyd Dobler from Say Anything, joined with a wall-of-sound worthy of Bowie’s Heroes.
