   Portobello Film Festival's Blurbs
About me:
The Film Festival was created in 1996 as a reaction to the moribund state of the British film industry, to provide a forum for new film-makers and give exposure to movies on different formats. Many of our previously out-on-a-limb directors have since been recognised by the big fish in the industry. The festival has been dubbed ‘the wild side of Brit Film’ (Metro), ‘this pioneering film festival’ (Evening Standard), ‘the biggest celebration of independent film in Europe’ (The Independent) and ‘London’s biggest filmic free-for-all’ (Time Out). That the Portobello Film Festival shows tomorrow’s films today is evident in the number of ideas first presented here that regularly crop up in the mainstream.

The Maid looks at the world of Sue, a single mother working within the sex industry. Today the phone won't stop ringing. The punters are demanding bizarre requests. Sue's mind is not on her work; she is preoccupied with matters closer to home and may lose her livelihood.

Her world comes crashing down around her and she is forced to make a decision, which could change the course of her entire life.

A dark, graphic, hard-hitting yet comical tale of one woman's survival in a world where women sell women.

Toby Tatum is very pleased to announce the completion of his new film Crime Scene

Photobucket

With Crime Scene Toby Tatum engages with his obsession with crime and, in particular, crime films – abstracting the genre's stock characters, situations and plots and reworking them outside the boundaries of conventional cinematic narrative.

The cast includes punk legend Gene October of Chelsea who, along with enjoying a successful music career which spans some thirty years, has also appeared in films including Derek Jarman's Jubilee (1978) and Caravaggio (1986).

Crime Scene is funded by Arts Council England.

The Water Bearers

No one tests the depths of the river with both feet
A hippopotamus can be made invisible in dark water

The heart of a wise man lies quiet like limpid water
The flood takes him in and the ebb takes him out

Water that is begged for does not quench the first
One who bathes willingly with cold water does not feel the cold

A stream cannot rise beyond it’s source
No matter how full the river, It still wants to grow

When the rain falls it does not fall on one house alone
Thunder is not yet rain
Water always finds a way out

A little rain each day will fill the rivers to overflowing
Yet in the abundance of water the fool is thirsty

Still...
Between two friends even water drunk together is sweet enough

One Love
