Hailing from New York City and central New Jersey, Mike Kovacs and the Post-Modern Tribe was formed by Mike Kovacs in 1999 and quickly became an integral part of the local indie rock scene. The members met via both the High school bussing system and the oracle of Craigslist. From that beginning the band set out on a path that has taken them throughout the United States and abroad, and has embraced the genres of rock, blues, and alternative music. All of these elements are combined with haunting cello arrangements and blended into a pop mix that is both approachable and utterly unique.
The band is currently preparing to go on the road with their newest project, a completely original multi-media rock opera entitled After the Valentines. 14 powerful new songs combine with video and dialogue in a way never seen before. In addition, they are also supporting the latest band cd Reaching for the Brass Ring by playing shows full of songs from this release as well as old favorites and their own unique versions of covers that include Led Zepplin, Violent Femmes, and Jimi Hendrix.
Members of the band include: Mike Kovacs, who composes the songs and cello arrangements and also sings lead and plays guitar; Mark Empire on drums and back-up vocals; Michael Benham on bass and back-up vocals; Mark Keane on bass; Julia Kost playing cello; and Liz Leigh on lead and back-up vocals.
