A band that grew from musical passion, the Post War Wage Slaves were born in Huyton a part of Liverpool, famed for artist such as The La’s and has a long history of music talent.
The Co-founders of the Post War Wage Slaves Andy Cowan and David Ruddock meet in 2003 through a mutual taste in music. They had a connection and began to collaborate penning some of the anthems that you still hear blasting from the stage at one of their many gigs.
After a while the duo attended L.I.P.A and it was there that their eyes where opened to the possibility or a career in music. Mentored by the likes of Peter Hooten and Keith Mullen of The Farm, Eddie London of China Crisis and Mat Fly of Honey Records the pair collaborated with several acts before they formed the band Red Eye Blind. After a while of writing and performing together as a band Andy and David realised they where going in a different direction to the others in the band and decided to take a chance. In 2005 they form the band we know today as ‘Post War Wage Slaves’. After recruiting Patrick Rossiter as a drummer, David the vocalist played guitar and Andy became the bassist.
They became an instant hit and quickly grew a following. Their fan base quickly grew and they began to play venues and festivals across the North-West, including Creamfields, the Mathew Street festival and Oxjam events.
Their music is hard to place into a specific genre as it is obvious they are influenced by many artists. This has proven to be strength for the band as it has allowed the band to recruit fans from all walks of life and musical taste.
Now in 2009 they are going from strength to strength and have a fresh new sound with new Drummer Ste Smith. They are forever growing bigger and better with every performance and have a busy schedule including performances with local talent The Mission Babies and the Bo-Wevils.
The next step is going in the studio to record the long awaited new album. Watch this space, you’re in for a treat.
It's been a while since the Post War Wage Slaves have set our loins into rhythmic dance-floor gyrations. The departure of a long term band member and exceptional drummer Patrick Rossiter hit the band hard and naturally the search for an equally talented and committed replacement proved difficult. But just as hopes were failing the band discovered Ste Smith and in no time PWWS were back in the studio recording a new set of demos. A new era of the band had begun to form. Last night the band played the Zanzibar Club on Liverpool's Slater Street; the first live performance with the new line-up and a new set list. It was a tense and nervous atmosphere for the boys who have been off stage for too many months for this to be taken lightly. And what can I say after watching their performance? They surpassed high expectations and played, what is agreed to be, one of their best gigs yet. Tight riffs and flawless lyrics growling through the speakers turned all of the heads in the room. Without gimmicks or ploys the band managed to subtly demand the attention of the entire room and nobody considered not giving it to them. New songs such as the emotive Anyway prove that even after all they've been through and losing a key member of the band, PWWS still have more to offer. This isn't a one hit wonder band; they continue to mercilessly pump out new tracks of outstanding quality that no act can follow. And even some of the old classics have been revamped and perfected to this new level of quality the band have reached with the addition of Ste Smith, who did a fantastic job in the Zanzibar. Last nights performance secured the future as a new era for the Post War Wage Slaves and if they have started as they mean to go on then they are sure to find success. It would take divine intervention to stop these boys. Lead vocalist/Guitarist, Dave, Bassist/Backing vocalist, Andy, and Drummer/Percussionist, Ste should be proud of their first live gig together.
