Matthew Garton Shakes up Potty Mouth Sound with “Soul for Rent EP”House, tech and funk drive five-track EP, with remix by Geoff K
CHICAGO—Matthew Garton knows how to have a good time.
From quirky vocal overlays to bouncy basslines, his music reflects his style both in the studio and on the decks. This time Garton is shaking up the sound of Los-Angeles based Potty Mouth Music, putting an eclectic stamp of house, tech and funk into one five-track package. “Soul for Rent EP” (PMM032) not only marks the producer’s PMM debut, but also brings another new vibe to an already multi-dimensional roster of sound.
With the new vibe comes the new PMM talent of Matthew Garton. Born in Brighton, England and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, Garton is widely known within the underground house community as one half of DJ/production duo Rotation Station (with partner Roger Aquino). While house forms the backbone of his sound, his influences range widely from jazz and Latin to funky house and filtered disco. Pops of tech, electro and progressive all help define much of his production catalogue in the past five years, which has landed on the label likes of Buzz Cut, Junky Trunk and Destination, to name a few.
“This EP represents all the styles of house that I love,” Garton says of his PMM debut. “It almost feels like I’ve drawn on influences from the past and then reworked them into more current interpretations.”
The EP’s title track “Soul for Rent” melds funk, stark synths and distorted vocals into one bounce-driven groove. South African electro house producer Geoff K speeds up the tempo for his remix, padding the bass while taking the track to a deeper, fuller place.
Adding to the EP is “Candy Whacked,” a dirty tech fueled groove with all the peaks and valleys of a 2 a.m. banger. “Pretty Surprise” brings Garton’s quirky house influences to forefront, with help from a funky bass guitar and cheeky vocals by Bladwin Blaq. “One Love” rounds out the EP with its startling mix of synth driven sounds the build into a dreamy, soulful breakdown. Swing jazz drums and tick-tock bass pumps create stand out noise for the equally stand out track.
Look for his Garton’s influences of Fat Boy Slim, The Greenskeepers, Switch, Basement Jaxx, Frank Sinatra and Noze to all find their place his “Soul for Rent EP.”
“I tend to get bored really quickly, so new ideas and experimentation is what keeps me going,” he says. “I think it shows in this EP.”
PMM032 “Soul for Rent EP” by Matthew Garton is now available for purchase exclusively on beatport.com for four weeks. Look for it to be available for purchase on iTunes by February 2009.

Weekend Woes Inspire Latest Release by Netherlands’ MightyFoolsCross-genre dance duo returns to Potty Mouth Music with second EP,
“Worse Than Yesterday”
CHICAGO—It took a nasty Sunday hangover to inspire the mixed-up sounds of the MightyFools’ newest release on LA-based Potty Mouth Music. The two tracks juxtaposed on “Worse Than Yesterday EP” (PMM031) pair reverb and stabbing synths with the kind of peak hour rave influences Andy Samin and Jelle Keizer do best. The result is a versatile, two-track EP that melds influences of house, electro and techno into one party-centric package.
Following up on their 2008 success of “Who Da Fool?”(PMM013), MightyFools return after a year of touring Australia, Europe and most recently, the U.S. While their DJ influences include marquee artists including A-Trak, Boys Noize, Tiga and Busy P, their studio work has taken on the more muted influences of funk and soul as of late.
“It has that special thing that we try to put into our music as well,” says Keizer.
Keizer and Samin have been putting their signature, genre-bending twist on their beats since they first began producing techno in the mid-’90s. Influenced by the rave culture of the day, the two began working more organic influences of house into their production work, creating twisty sounds that led to remix work for Tommie Sunshine, Will Bailey and Kelevra, to name a few.
On their latest EP, MightyFools again bring their vibe of music diversity to the dance floor with “Worse Than Yesterday.” The title track pulses as a heavy rave track for peak-hour sets, inspiring chaotic twists and what Keizer calls “crowd destroying sounds.” “Clean It” echoes the duo’s earlier PMM release, combining hip-hop vocal drops with analog synth stabs to create a pounding, effected out track that pulses with gruff groove.
Mightyfools dub their sound as futuristic house music that pushes the boundaries of the international house sound—regardless of the EPs they release. What keeps them players in the game?
“The music, the people, the beautiful cities we see and the great food we can taste every where,” Keizer says.
PMM031 “Worse Than Yesterday” is now available for purchase exclusively on beatport.com for four weeks. Look for it to be available for purchase on iTunes by January 2010.

Magik Johnson Makes His Mark with Debut Release for Potty Mouth Music“Stand Up EP” features three original tracks with remix by Calvertron!
CHICAGO—Taking a nod from tech-house heavyweights including Crookers, Jesse Rose and SIS, producer Magik Johnson unveils his latest trick for Potty Mouth Music with “Stand Up EP” (PMM029). In showcasing a range of deep, tribal and peak hour grooves, Johnson’s debut label EP reflects the diversity of his multi-decade music career. The result is three-track collection of original beats, capped with a jazz-inspired remix from UK electro-house producer Calvertron.
“I really wanted to make three tracks that were dance floor friendly and represented what I am in the playing in the clubs,” says Johnson, whose earliest deck days date back to the late ’80s, when rocked his own room at Manchester’s legendary Hacienda.
Since then, Johnson has gone on to establish himself as one of the most venerable artists in the business, blurring the lines of house and techno while remaining true to the nuanced complexities of each genre. Production stints with Cream’s Olympic label, New Order’s Pleasure Recordings and Manchester’s Paper Recordings collective all led to his launch of Shaboom Records, which developed into one of the world’s most respected dance labels.
Since relocating from the UK to Auckland, New Zealand nearly 10 years ago, Johnson has channeled the his darker influences from the Manchester music scene into his original production work, debuting his first album, Cardboard Journey, in 2005. The launch of his digital label, Magiktrax, coupled by his inclusion on Darren Emerson’s Underwater roster, led to releases on acclaimed labels including Made to Play, Saved and Curfew.
Now Johnson adds Potty Mouth Music to the mix with the release of “Stand Up EP.” The record’s uptempo, title track resonates with a synth-driven neurosis set to audibly prick peak-hour crowds. Pair that with the deep, rolling groove of “Make You See,” a late night, tribal-tinged cut framed by vocal chants and dotty bassline. Johnson drifts between the two vibes with “Boy Blew,” a steady track that gets a jazz rework from Calvertron. In melding his signature wonky basslines with horn samples and classic keys, electro-house and organic jazz find an unexpectedly smooth match.
PMM 029 “Stand Up EP” is now available for purchase exclusively on beatport.com for four weeks. Look for it to be available for purchase on iTunes by December 1.

“Headtrick Remixed” Bangs with Six New Takes on Santiago and Bushido’s Breakthrough EPIncludes a new Santiago & Bushido rework + variety of additional remixes!
CHICAGO—Since the release of their breakthrough EP, “Headtrick” on Potty Mouth Music in January 2008, Santiago & Bushido have remained the label’s top production duo. Now on PMM030, S&B bring it back to where it all began with “Headtrick Remixed,” an eclectic EP that includes six different takes of the newly, reedited single. Internationally acclaimed producers including Tryodon, Juan De La Madre, Audiostalkers, Keith Mackenzie & Fixx, and Jon Kennedy each put their own EDM stamp on the sound that burned up the Beatport.com charts as the No. 1 single for three consecutive weeks.
The driving basslines and distinctive loops of “Head Trick” helped make it the No. 8 best selling electro house track on Beatport in 2008 and earned international play from the likes of Tiesto and Armin van Burin plus charted by acclaimed artists such as Moby.
“The idea for the remix album is to re-release the original for some of the new kids buying music in the scene and the remixes are for the people who need another mix to bang to,” Producer Chris Santiago says.
The basis for “Remixed” starts with a re-edit of the original, which features a techno-dub S&B crafted from the main melody. The result is a raw sound that melds energy with gritty, dance floor toughness. EP remixes include: An electro banger by Sweden’s Audiostalkers; a dubstep rework by Chicago’s Jon Kennedy; a big-room, tribal mix by Juan de la Madre (of Samantha James remix fame); a peak-hour breaks version from Chicago’s Keith Mackenzie & Fixx; and an old-school fidget cut from South Africa’s Troydon, taking listeners back to where it all began.
To date, the newly release “Remixed” EP has earned play support from artists including John Aquaviva, Fakeblood, Busy P and Wolfgang Gartner, to name a few.
“The concept of this remix was to get remixes from different genres of electronic music to introduce others to our sound as well as the label,” Santiago says. “From electro and dubstep to breaks and tech—there’s something for everyone in this package.”
PMM 030 “Headtrick Remixed” will is now available for purchase exclusively on Beatport.com. Look for it to be available for purchase on iTunes in mid November.

Calvertron and Itchyfeet get Wobbly with New EP on Potty Mouth+ Includes house-heady remix by Magik Johnson (New Zealand)
CHICAGO—With already more than 100 releases under his belt since 2003, U.K. producer Calvertron (aka Alex Calver) drops one of his dirtiest loads to date on Chicago’s Potty Mouth Music Label. This time he’s partnered with Bristol, U.K. production duo Itchyfeet on their latest EP “Dwarf Porn,” out now on PMM. Double-teamed with two original bangers ‘Dwarf Porn’ and ‘Grifter’, both tracks on the EP include heavy use of vocals by Steve Kyte from the Robsapians, twisting words with retro finesse reminiscent of The Streets. Manchester-turned-New Zealand-producer Magik Johnson adds to the ep with a dark rerub remix of the title cut.
Calvertron, producing since 2002, has carved a niche in both the electro and techno scene as a solo artist and as one half of Twocker, a collaboration with producer Will Bailey. More recently, Calvertron has produced under the alias Kalva and has continued to run his successful Jack Knife Records based in the southwest U.K.
On this EP, Alex partners with Itchyfeet, the production outfit of Andy Lane and Gareth Morgan. The duo’s signature chunky, funked-up basslines find a match with Calvertron’s big-room grooves that drive, bang and build, first taking audiences to the brink then dropping them down with a heavy boom. All three producers collaborated in Calvertron’s studio and landed their first joint production on PMM. The producer says both tracks take on the signature of his electro-heavy basslines, but it’s the Kyte’s vocals that define the EPs unique vibe.
“Both titles are taken from the lyrics in each track, with Grifter being a type of bicycle that was very popular before BMX’s in the U.K.,” Calvertron says. “The title track’s lyric says something about someone’s girlfriend showing his dwarf porn to her friends. We thought it was quite memorable—and fun!”
Putting a hazier, progressive spin on the EP is acclaimed producer Magik Johnson, who has collaborated with renowned house and techno talent as part of Darren Emerson’s Underwater roster. Since launching his own imprint Magiktrax, Johnson has gone on to release his nuanced tracks and remixes on other labels of acclaimed artists including Jesse Rose’s Made to Play, Nic Fanciullli’s Saved, and King Unique’s Curfew, to name a few. His early days as a staple of Manchester’s Hacienda continue to influence his prolific body of production work.
Influences run deep on PMM 028 with the joint debut of Calvertron vs. Itchyfeet. The “Dwarf Porn” EP—including a title cut remix by New Zealand’s Magik Johnson—is available exclusively for the first four weeks for download on beatport.com.

Santiago & Bushido deliver new tunes to Potty Mouth with “UWLMF EP” & new official mix compilation “Makeout Mixtape Sessions - Volume 2”+ Dj Colette joins S&B on original track!
CHICAGO—On their fifth EP for Chicago-based digital label Potty Mouth Music, DJ/Producers Chris Santiago & Tim Bushido push their evolving sound to new limits with the release of “UWLMF EP” and “Makeout Mixtape Sessions 02.” The 27th original EP on PMM not only delivers a spectrum of groove-heavy sounds that bang and bump through three distinct tracks, it also features kinetic vocals of DJ/Producer Colette slicing through the beat of the EP’s lead track, “Make Me Feel.”
Tapping Colette for their latest PMM project was a given for Santiago & Bushido, who collaborated on her 2007 artist album “Push.” In remixing a vocal sample from their original recording session, S&B meld voice and bassline to create a melodic track that delivers a big room jolt.
“I think it’s great we got to work with Colette again on something that’s a little trackier and reflects more of the Potty Mouth sound,” Bushido says on their studio collaboration.
Additionally, the track “Tell Me Why” pulses with the chuggy momentum of dark techno. A vocal loop puts a melodic spin on the sound, creating intricate musical layers that defy genre borders. The third and final track, “All I Can Say,” features minimal drums and basslines while showcasing a tough vocal sample driven by jabby beats.
Santiago & Bushido say the “UWLMF EP” is a reflection of how they have artistically grown as producers since debuting on the PMM rooster in 2007 as the label’s first artists.
“The S&B sound is always evolving and we like put out tracks that have longevity and don’t follow trends,” Santiago says. “I think over the years we have also been more open to listening to other types of genres than in previous years, which has also led to those sounds influencing what we produce.”
To complement their latest EP, S&B simultaneously will release their first official mix compilation “Makeout Mixtape Sessions 02,” a heady set of PMM tracks produced by some of the label’s most prominent talent. Following the success of “Makeout Mixtape Sessions 01” by PMM artist HiJack, S&B deliver another flawless mix of both original tracks and cuts from fellow artists including DJ Fame, Audiostalkers, The Bulgarian and Heavyfeet, to name a few.
PMM027 “UWLMF EP” will be available for purchase on 6/16/09 exclusively (for first 30 days) on Beatport.com. Those who download the entire ep will also get PMM’s latest continuous mix “Makeout Mixtape Sessions 02” for free with the download bundle. TJR Eats, Sleeps and Breathes Potty Mouth- New EP features two original tracks + remix by Klaus Hill
CHICAGO—On his debut EP for Potty Mouth Music, DJ/producer TJR from New York works his signature acid house sound into something fresh, funky and infectious. The Eat, Sleep, Breath It EP bridges TJR’s knack for old-school sampling with the forward-thinking sounds of house and electro. The result is a three track EP that includes the vocal-heavy “Good Evening Chicago,” including a remix by Sydney, Australia’s Klaus Hill; and “I Don’t Know Where,” a disco influenced cut heavily reworked with a fidget twist.
“I’ve always had a strong connection to Chicago and house music,” says TJR, an industry veteran of more than 15 years. In producing “Good Night Chicago” as part of PMM 025, TJR brings the energy of a live show to the studio, as he pays homage to one of the scene’s most influential cities. “Creating a song dedicated to the city that keeps redefining house music was a goal of mine,” he says.
Growing up in suburban Connecticut, TJR’s early years consisted of hockey, golf and suburban debauchery. Once an aspiring golf pro, TJR traded in his clubs for a set of turntables after attending his first rave in mid-’90s. He soon translated his love for mixing into producing it. Taking note from artists such as Terry Mullan, Armando, Mike Ink, Paul Birken and Ian Pooley, he landed on the Catalyst label before once again shifting his sound to the fidget/electro house scene. Original tracks on Wearhouse Music—along with remixes for labels such as InStereo Recordings, Eden Records and Promo—have positioned TJR amongst some of the scenes finest.
The producer/DJ says he was trying to make his latest release a fun addition to the PMM label. “Life shouldn’t be taken so seriously and I try to reflect in my music,” he says. PMM025 “Eat, Breathe, Sleep EP” will be available for purchase on 5/19/09 exclusively (for first 30 days) on Beatport.com.

CHICAGO—Chicago-based digital label Potty Mouth Music welcomes the latest international addition to its expanding talent roster with the release of “Gouled Felem,” the label’s 23rd EP produced by Stockholm, Sweden trio, Audiostalkers. In pairing relentless, electro-heavy grooves over hip-hop influenced vocals, Audiostalkers create a collection of tough beats that are playful enough to inspire a party wherever they drop.

Funk, fidget and bounce find common ground on the production of palette of Kyle Watson, a South African producer who melds melodic beats with big bass. The result is malleable vibe that is organic enough to keep house heads on the floor and energetic enough to blow fidget fans off of it.
Watson first garnered a grassroots following of dance music fans in his native South Africa in 2006, when a small independent dance label uploaded several of his studio crafted tracks to favored response. By the following year, Elevate Music had taken notice and began releasing techy, start-up tracks including “Push It,” “Abstraction,” and “Something Dirty.” Pushed by his own burgeoning underground success, Watson soon migrated to remix work, putting his electro spin on Paul Bingham’s “Superstar.” The track would rise the ranks of both the Beaport and Juno minimal/tech and electro house charts. His remix of Terrance Dizko’s “Be Alright” on Lets Play House also earned nods from tech house fans with fellow South African producer Lady Lea, who named him one of the country’s top upcoming producers in 2007.
Watson’s success was fueled further with help from his rerub of the Kristy Hawkshaw’s classic track “It’s A Fine Day,” which flew to No. 1 on the DMC Buzz Chart within one week. His work led to recent remix projects for John Dahlback’s “More Than I Wanted” (Pickadoll) and Goldfish’s “Cruising Through” (Pacha Recordings). More recently, Watson has released a biting bootleg of Groove Armada’s “Superstyling” and teamed with fellow Potty Mouth Music artists Chris James and Lee Dearn on a remix project the duo’s new digital label, Dubnoir. When Watson is not playing for audiences in South Africa, he travels to Fulham, London, where audiences at Zulu’s Bar dig deep into his sound. Regular gigs at the likes of Electric Circus and KISS prove that 20-year-old Watson is on the long-term radar for fidget audiences in all corners of the scene.
Fresh and Bouncy EP is Kyle Watson’s first release on Potty Mouth Music.
Click on the picture for more info on Scott Cooper! SCOTT COOPER (UK)
Scott Cooper blends jackin electronic house with eclectic influences of hip-house, ragga and dancehall. His diverse spin on the underground sound has made him a less predictable—but always rowdy—addition to the Potty Mouth Music roster.
Cooper channeled his classically trained guitar skills into electronic music, taking early influence from Sasha, Lee Burridge, Craig Richards and the breaks of DJ Hyper. London-based DJ Jon Carter further influenced his production with a fusion of ragga vocals and old-school samples with house music and broken beats. His diversity would become the cannon for a sound he would develop at Nottingham’s prestigious Confetti Studios.
In the past 10 years, Cooper has honed his skills on the decks and in the studio, collaborating with artists such as Jak Z, and Balie funk MC Edu-K. Cooper’s breakthrough “Hanging with Mr. Cooper EP” released in early 2008 on Lee Mortimer’s Wearhouse Music showcased his signature mix of electro, dancehall and breaks. The artist takes these influences even further with his forthcoming “Natty Jack EP,” on Wearhouse, which includes remixes by Potty Mouth Music artists HiJack and Heavy Feet.
“I’d describe my style as all-embracing in the way that I like to get a lot of different sounds and make sense of them in both my productions and my DJ sets,” Cooper says. The self-proclaimed serial collaborator of late still finds time to work with other artists while also making time to tweak his own twisted sound.
On the DJing front, forthcoming gigs see Cooper, 27, touring Canada, Europe and The States, along with an annual outing to Ibiza. He has held a previous residency at Digital in Lincoln and is a current resident of the monthly Moda event which Potty mouth's Andy George runs along with fellow Lincoln based DJs Jaymo and Ingo Staar.
Cooper has collaborated with George for their latest EP, “The Cooper and George EP” due for release in July 2008.

With their blend of big basslines and vocals, Santiago & Bushido are a filthy addition the Potty Mouth Music roster. Since teaming up as a production duo in 2001, Chris Santiago and Tim Bushido have elevated the art of electronic jack to encompass many influences, from the hard hitting to the deep and soulful.
At the core of Santiago & Bushido’s sound lays the forward thinking, funk-tech that has given them critical moxie in Chicago and beyond. As products of the mid ’90s rave scene, the DJ/producers grew up immersed in a community that they would soon become their professional careers. Bushido picked up djing at an early age and got deep into the art of production. Experimenting with hip hop at the start, he slowly ebbed into house production, thanks in part to his work at Chicago Recording Company. Sharing the same recording space with the likes of R.Kelly and Smashing Pumpkins, Bushido honed his engineering and production prowess until opportunity knocked.
While Bushido was mastering his craft, Santiago was working his way up the Chicago’s nightlife hierarchy. Within one year of playing live gigs, he secured a Friday night residency at Zentra Nightclub. The renowned “Jack Fridays” have continued to attract underground house crowds for more than six years, with crowds still going off weekly. Santiago’s presence in the Chicago house community reaches even further with his involvement in the House Arrest promotion group, which continues to host some of the scene’s most well attended parties.
As producers, Santiago & Bushido draw influences from their straight house background and apply harder and heavier elements to the sound. “We get really deep into the tracks we’re producing, flip them and cut them in so many different ways, all to get the heaviest groove possible,” Bushido says. Since collaborating, they have dropped numerous EP’s and remixes on some of House Music’s most well respected label including Robsoul, Control Recordings and Black Cherry, to name a few. The duo’s smash release “What Your Name?” on Robsoul continues to enjoy heavy rotation on the global house scene.
In addition to their Potty Mouth debut, the duo recently finished work on Colette’s new album “Push”, slated for August release on OM Records. They wrote and produced the album’s second slotted single, “If,” which they also remixed for a separate release. Already generating a buzz in the house community, “If” also features its own music video which will align with the release.
Santiago & Bushido’s recent inclusion in the Potty Mouth family aligns with the duo’s production and performance philosophies. “One thing about us is we’re not afraid to do a deep track or a totally hardcore track…as long as it works on the dance floor and is pushing the sound forward, it works for us.” Given the tech-funk inflection of their forthcoming release, the nastier the duo delves, the better they beat.

Breakbeats may have profoundly influenced the Belgium-bred battery of Electric Soulside, but it’s their electro spin on the sound that landed them to Potty Mouth Music roster. Debuting on London-based label Ruff Dog Recordings in 2006, brothers Patrick and Steve Hoody have since brought their brand of glitch and fidget house to labels across Europe, Canada and now, into The States.
Driven by underground dance culture of early ’90s, Steve hooked into music with his first set of turntables in 1994; Patrick bought a rhythm box and an analogue synthesizer and explored. By mid-decade, the two had formed a creative partnership that pitted both brothers behind the synthesizer. Their first project, Mantra and Galax-Sea, was a live, synth-driven show that showcased their abilities to musically improvise alongside renowned Belgium musicians. Electronic and heady in nature, the sonic structure of their sets still put house at the forefront, taking influences from artists such as DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter and Paul Johnson.
By 2001, the duo’s signed on to London’s Blue Black Records, which were home to breaks artists including Meat Katie and Elite Force. Patrick and Steve absorbed the outside influences into their own sound, recording under the names Hoody & Hoody and Ultravision before settling into Electric Soulside in early 2006. Having produced under various music influences, the two brothers knew their eclectic style of electronica was a rare breed in their native Belgium. London’s Ruff Dog Recordings gave the duo the nod shortly after, signing the track “Shining,” an electro-breakbeat cut found in the crates of The Crystal Method and Aquasky alike.
Since 2006, Electric Soulside has appeared on numerous European labels, including European Breakbots (Paris), Flatout (Stockholm) and V.I.M (Greece). Their early 2008 release on Ruff Dog, “Second Life,” became a No. 1 electro-breaks release on Chemical Records (vinyl) and No. 2 on Djdownload.com breaks Top 100 (mp3) in the UK.
Electric Soulside melds breaks, glitch, electro and house into their production, creating sounds that twist and turn whether they are loosely adhering to the structured sounds of house or keeping their own beat to UK breakbeat.

Remix master Paul Kelevra is putting his name at the forefront of Potty Mouth Music, trading in his backstage status for the full on limelight. The Midlands, UK producer/DJ has already remixed for dozens tracks of dance music artists, but this time Kelevra is stepping out in a big, bouncy way with this latest “Clean Jeans EP” on Potty Mouth.
Rising through the vinyl ranks of the dance scene of the late ’90s, Kelevra played clubs on both sides of the Atlantic for more than a decade. Keeping a fun but dirty vibe to his sets, the artist channeled his creativity on the decks into a slew of remix projects for esteemed artists including DJ Dan, Jamie Fanatic, Klaus Hill, Micky Slim and Aquasky, to name a few. Original releases on Wearhouse Music have garnered remix attention from Lee Mortimer, including a rerub of “Grab Ya Funkstick” on the “Bad Dog EP.”
2008 saw Kelevra slide into the Aussie Top 50 dance charts just under Calvin Harris with his remix of Audio Slingers’ “Radio Noise” on Kingdome Kome. He looks to continue the creative momentum in 2009 on the push of a collaborative label with D.O.N.S. Ollie Geodicke called Fidget Kingdom. “Jak Muzik” featuring Whiskey Pete marks Kelevra’s first release on Fidget Kingdom with remixes from Micky Slim, Klaus Hill Jaimie Fanatic & Aniki, alongside a new EP with Jamie Fanatic on the emerging WeAreAllKidz Label.
“I am also working with Mc Flipside & Sharooz who are currently flying high on the back of “Hi Friend” with Deadmau5 & Get Off on Plasmapool for my next single on PBR recordings,” Kelevra says.
When Kelevra is not instigating mischief behind the decks, he is working hard on his own UK-based imprint KrunK, showcasing fresh hip house, fidget and electro tracks by himself and artists across the dance music community. Between crafting and managing, Kelevra’s own work has also garnered support from the likes of Crookers, Kissy, Judge Jules, Tongy and Armand Van Helden.
“I like to think I just bring full on party tunes that I’d like to hear if I was out clubbing—stuff that makes ya want to dance!” he says.
“Clean Jeans EP” includes collaborations with Whisky Pete and Nathan Boon, along with remixes by Kyle Watson and BamBam.
From his early interests in trance and funky house to his explosive experimentations in electro, Chris James brings a unique blend of beats to the Potty Mouth Music roster. Always eager to push his production to the next level, the Birmingham, UK-native is unafraid to explore the twisted side of house and inflect it with plenty of pop and groove.
Launching his career at 15, Chris spread his sound across the Midlands through live, Internet radio shows. Within one year, Chris was garnering hundreds of fans and hosting three shows per week, including “Funk’d Up Mondays,” and his monthly “HLE” showcase (Harder, Lounder & Electronic). Slick mixing and track selection put him on the club billing radar, as he landed gigs at London’s top clubs including Ministry of Sound and Turnmills. He has also gone on to hold residencies at ‘If . . .U Want It’ at Bushwackers, B1 at Chic and Spin at Dragon Eye in Birmingham.
Even before making his EP on new label home Potty Mouth Music, Chris has kept production pace in the studio. From club-stomping remixes like “Smut” (Venga Digital) to the more organic reworks of tracks like Suriv’s “Epic Flow” (Roostar Records), Chris walks a groove-heavy line between the synthetic and soulful sounds that elevate his style to the next.
When he’s not riding the turns of twisted house, Chris is also working under his techno alias, Chris Crowther, and enjoying support provided by BBC Radio1’s Pete Tong. His track ‘Vasco De Gama’ led to a remix project for Miles Dyson, whose track—“Anthem”—is released as a rerub on Plasmapool.
“My music is definitely forward thinking, innovative and creative as well as making people move,” Chris says of his evolving sound. “Potty Mouth has a tendency to push boundaries with their releases and I feel that the music I make fits the bill.”
For his first release on Potty Mouth Music, Chris teams up with colleague Lee Dearn to craft the “We Can Play EP,” a heady mix of jagged grooves that puts a new twist on his already signature twisted sound.
Lee Dearn Bio:
The gritty streets of Birmingham, England put their own gritty stamp on the sound of Lee Dearn, a producer whose dirty beats drive back to his roots. In combining obscure, cut-up samples with bouncy, jacked up grooves, Dearn slides in as one of the darkest additions to the Potty Mouth Music label.
Since launching his music career at age 17, the producer/DJ has gone on to post a residency at Release, a night he and fellow producer/Potty Mouth Music label mate Chris James organized in Birmingham. Soon, the two started collaborating together creatively. Dearn’s previous label credits include Somatic Sense, The Gallery Turnmills and Bonzai Limited, where he and James released their seminal anthem, “Santa Eularia.” In addition to his original tracks, Dearn has collaborated and helmed a number of remix projects, putting a dark, driving face to Bloc Party’s “So Here We Are” and Scarlet Harlots’ “In the Garden” (Chris James and Lee Dearn remix).
Dearn’s working class roots continue to shape his hard-nosed sound, with his music taking influence from techno and trance artists including Jeff Mills, Tiefschwarz, Stephan Bodzin and James Holden. His hard-wired beats speak to his West Midland upbringing and a self-sufficient production style that continues to drive him in the studio and behind the decks. In balancing grit and groove, Dearn melds elements from a variety of genres, including hip hop, techno, house and even traditional Columbian music.
His latest release, the “We Can Play” EP with Chris James, marks his first release on Potty Mouth Music.
Click on the picture for more info on the Crookers! THE CROOKERS (Milan, Italy)
Drawing from influences of house, hip hop and beyond, Crookers blend their beats with the kind of fidget house finesse that gives Potty Mouth Music its soiled swagger. Since 2003, DJs Phra and Bot have been drawing upon their collective musical backgrounds to create tracks that twist, startle and surprise with synthetic pop.
Before their collaboration as Crookers, Bot and Phra pursued their music interests on a separate tip. Bot took up the piano and guitar at an early age, later moving onto synths, turntables and sequencers. Phra had already started DJing by age 11, when he was introduced to the Italian hip hop scene. Soon, he morphed into an MC and became fully immersed in a culture that would shape his future production career.
“Both of us started getting more involved in music when we used to listen to hip hop,” Phra says. When the two artists met, both were trying to branch out of their genre success and explore dance music. The experiment worked. “It felt natural to team up, seeing that we had the same musical tastes … which isn’t that easy here in Milan,” he says.
Crookers have sleazed out dance floors with a catalogue of original tracks, but it’s their work as remixers that have made them one of the most after batteries in the business. Currently, the duo is reworking tracks for the likes of Arman Van Helden, Bonde do Role, Brodinski, Magik Johnson and Bumblebeez. Listen for their forth coming, debut album to feature other fidget house favorites, including Edu K, Steed Lord, Joyce Muniz and Miss Odd Kidd and others.
When Crookers are not crafting their dirty (crooked) beats in the studio, they are busy holding down their residency with MTV (Italy). “House and hip hop are our main influences, but we try to put all the things we like in our productions. We listen to a lot of music from very different periods and genres.”
The result is a twisted blend of glitch, tech and distortion, which finds a dirty slot on the Potty Mouth music roster.

Chicago-inspired, LA-based Potty Mouth Music is a digital music label that was launched in spring 2007 and has since release more than 30 EPs by artists from around the world. The talent roster includes producers from the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and South Africa. Inspired by the electro glitch twists of progressive producers such as Switch, Trevor Loveys and Jesse Rose, Potty Mouth ditches conventional house boundaries, imploring turntable trickery, unconventional loops and straight up fidget into its catalogue of tracks. Label head James Amato keeps house-heavy influences in place and lacing them with the kind of dirty glitch that makes it feel so good to be so bad.
