Power Down is an irregular night of eclectic musical entertainment that is not powered by conventional sources. The performers are completely unamplified and the audience is silent out of necessity. The lighting is provided by donated candles and a type of candle that we make ourselves using recycled vegetable oil from the local fish and chip shop. Food and beverages are served which are either organic or locally produced. The nights are held together by the host Marmaduke Dando, and are generally held at the Islington Arts Factory in Holloway, north London.
The following acts have performed at Power Down in the last 2 years: The Hoosiers, Liam Bailey, Cellorhythmics, Seb Genovese, Ahuman, Portico Quartet, Chris Lyons, Rebecca Jade, Rachel Rose Reid, Rob McCabe, Tall Stories, Sara Mitra, Josephine Oniyama, Citizen Helene & The Racists, Lemond, Chancery Blame and The Gadjo Club, Zoot Lynam and his band, Top Shelf Jazz, The Langley Sisters, Ed Harcourt, Andrew Clarke, Alys and the D90s, Will Miles, Monooka, and Marmaduke Dando.
The full line-up for the next Power Down on Saturday, October 17th, 2009 is now confirmed:
A soulful blues troubadour, fresh from playing a gorgeous set at the Treehouse Gallery last month, back with his band that will no doubt make use of the piano and the acoustics in the hall.
Zhanna Tonaganyan
A young Russian virtuoso violinist I had the great honour of discovering at one of the free lunchtime concerts at Lincoln's Inn Chapel last year. She will be playing with an accompanying pianist, a couple of dark and romantic classical pieces of her choice.
A charming bossa nova guitarist and singer all the way from Naples in Italy, though now a resident of London. Seb played the first every Power Down, and it's with much warmth that we welcome him back again.
North London female duo backed by a sinister orchestra, employing strange harps and bandions, a sound that would make even Nick Cave's hairs stand on end.

Fanzine handout, cakes, poetry, stories, a gritty psych/freakout jazz/fucked-pop/post-punk soundtrack, and some disturbingly delightful live sets from The Mules, The Woodsmen & more...
