Po' Wit Treez began as the brainchild of rappers Shu Brown, Junie & Cutty in the spring of 1997. Originally the name of a mock group in a screenplay that Shu Brown was working on at the time, it evolved into a full blown project which started with "The Chosen Ones" in 1998.
Buried deep, deep underground for which has seemed like an eternity, (Cutty busy with another group, Junie juggling family, job and music & Shu Brown becoming more and more eccentric) in 2000, members Shu Brown and Junie recorded an EP in 10 days (of studio time) with fellow MC Lam Chopz, entitled "10 Daze" under the duo monicker KoliZhun (Lam Chopz & Shu Brown featuring Junie). It received good responses from the streets but never saw the light of stardom.
KoliZhun disbanded three years later when Lam Chopz officially resigned from MIC ripping. The members of Po' Wit Treez recorded various songs with other local artists individually and collectively and then in early 2005, the concept of a mixtape surfaced. "Memoirs of a Southern 'G' Mixtape was born, and only accentuated to new levels when D'Lana (Sheba Shane), Shu Brown's younger, and extremely talented sister entered the fray.
The "Memoirs" mixtape was finished with minimal studio time and included contributions from underground artists all over the south including Mr. Kleen a.k.a. Big Pooh, T-Baby, Big Butta, Minutes McClane and Cain from the Jacobs' Boyz (all from Louisville) plus Salt (from Orlando) and Bishop (from Charlotte) and of course Po' Wit Treez.
The "Memoirs of a Southern 'G' Mixtape was completed on 12/05/05 and is blessin' the hoods all over. Po' Wit Treez is currently trying to increase their exposure and hopefully move towards a higher level of recognition and accomplishment. All members of Po' Wit Treez are from Louisville, KY and represent the Newburg area, from Cashmoor to Lincoln Park. Be on the lookout, cause they ain't playin'.
