About me:

POW WOW started out as a Rock n' Roll Party held every Wednesday (and a few Thursdays) night at FELIX / SPY LOUNGE in Adams Morgan. Adam, Sara, and Kim DJ'd. Joe tended bar. People got drunk...and it was magical.

Pow Wow appeared monthly at the Rock and Roll Hotel.
KICKS! featuring Pow Wow's Kim and Sara, is now found monthly at the Black Cat Backstage. It's free. It rules. Kim and Sara, who are not sisters - thanks for mentioning the resemblance though - co-pilot the rock and roll party KICKS!. What began as "Pow Wow," the brainchild of Adam (actual sibling to Sara who has left dirty DC for even dirtier LA), Pow Wow/KICKS! is a big old mess of garage rock, psych, 70s punk, powerpop, bubblegum, beat, shoegaze, the occasional classic rock or metal track, and whatever else we feel like playing through a Jameson haze. Like a phoenix from the ashes or a zombie from the dirt, Pow Wow has reared its ugly head again in the form of a podcast http://powwow.podbean.com

From the Washington Post:

"Kicks is one of the more user-friendly DJ nights on the Black Cat's monthly calendar. From Queen to the Cold War Kids, Cheap Trick to the Vivian Girls, the Ramones to the Rolling Stones, it's a night of pure fun rock and roll, mainly from the '70s and '80s, that begs you to have a couple of beers and jump around on the backstage. Just when you think you're ready to leave, DJs Kim and Sara drop "Rebel Rebel" or "Teenage Kicks" and you find yourself saying, "Okay, one more song," and then the next thing you know the lights are coming up and it's time to go home, even though you meant to leave 45 minutes ago. Whoops."

Pow Wow/KICKS! promises awesome music that you won't hear much else of in DC, charmingly sloppy entertainment, special guest DJs, fucked-up movies, cool people, and drunken tomfoolery.
KICKS! is now found once a month at the Black Cat.
You may find yourself waking up in a gutter afterwards.

Hey hey we have our grand opening this Thursday 8/27!

Mind helping us out and spreading the word?
We're trying to bring back what we had with Alchemy.
We're only once a month now and on one floor, but if we get enough people out and prove that there's still a scene, we could possibly go weekly and have the second floor. TOWN is such an awesome venue too. Hope you can make it out!

    May Mayhem!

Last month's semifinal game between Scare Force One and the Cherry Blossom Bombshells came down to a nail-biting double overtime, and the Bombshells are trying to carry that momentum to vanquish the fierce DC DemonCats, who haven't lost a game since October. This exciting season championship matchup will be the last DC Rollergirls home game until the fall, so don't miss out!

In addition, fans can watch an expo matchup between Scare Force One and the River City Rollergirls of Richmond, VA, and check out Jason Leffler's #38 NASCAR showcar. Plus, in honor of Mother's Day, moms will get a gift at the door!

It's tailgating season, so come early to Stadium/Armory Lot 3 and get a head start on the fun! The lot opens at 3 p.m.

Tickets are available in advance through Ticketmaster (service charge applies), at the RFK Stadium box office and at the door on bout day.

Also, we are excited to announce that DC Rollergirls merchandise is now available online! Now you can buy your favorite team or league shirts, buttons, stickers and more!
Check out our new eBay Store: Dc Rollergirls Merch Be sure to watch for EXCLUSIVE AUCTION ITEMS like SIGNED TEAM PROGRAMS. Team signed program auctions will start at bout time, April 18 @ 5pm EST.

    March derby madness!

The DC Rollergirls again have back-to-back home and travel bouts in March.

On Saturday, March 14, home teams Scare Force One and DC DemonCats will face eachother for the second time this season. The 2-1 DemonCats were victorious the last time around, but 1-1 Scare Force is itching for another win. The Cherry Blossom Bombshells will take on the Boardwalk Brawlers of Shore Points Roller Derby in an expo game.

On Saturday, March 21, the DC All-Stars head to Pennsylvania again, this time to take on the Dutchland Derby Rollers in Lancaster.

You can help support the All-Stars just by going to eat some chili at the Hard Times Cafe in Old Town Alexandria March 26. Make sure you bring this flier to make sure we get credited with your purchase!
