    PPF Farms Kennel's Interests
General

We researched and emailed 5 Cairn breeders in our area. Bobbi Jo was the first to respond and answer all our questions and extended an invitation to visit her kennel. We made appointments to visit two different kennels but after spending an hour at the Powell's kennel, meeting some of the already spoken for 5 week old pups and some of the adult dogs (including the mother and father of our two Cairns), we decided we'd found the kennel we'd been looking for and need look no further. That afternoon we contracted to purchase two of the pups from an upcoming litter. Those pups have been with us for three months now and we cannot imagine life without them.

The Powell's kennel is situated on a working farm with the family's log home a few hundred yards from the kennel. I was impressed with the building that housed the dogs - it was clean and well planned to give the dogs outside and inside space separated by doggy doors so they could go in and out as they pleased. While we did not tour the entire facility, it was very apparent that the dogs (Cairns & Westies) were well cared for and happy.

As for our two, a male (Crosby) and a female (Hope) now almost 5 mos. old, we are 100% satisfied! They are the smartest little rascals with the biggest personalities - they are quite literally the stars of our neighborhood. They're very sociable, energetic and have already responded well to training.

I can tell you that we definitely made the right decision in choosing the Powell's kennel. Bobbi Jo emailed us updates & photos of our guys every week until they came home with us - we even made a trip to visit them when they were 5 weeks and she was very generous with her time, letting us visit and film them and answering all our questions.

We are very happy to serve as references for Bobbi Jo and the PPF Farms Kennel and would gladly answer any inquiries from prospective owners of one (or maybe two) of their pups.

Sincerely,

Rebecca & Judd Greenwood

I want to thank Tim and Bobbi Jo Powell for providing us a beautiful, playful, healthy pup. My family purchased our Westie puppy on 10/22/05. After researching various breeds and various breeders, we decided to purchase a Westie at PPF Farms Kennel (Bobbi Jo Powell). I inquired about available puppies via e-mail and Bobbi Jo immediately got back to me with pictures and descriptions. My daughters and I decided to go and visit two puppies at the farm to decide which pup would fit better with our family. After a long seven- hour ride, we arrived at PPF Farms Kennel. Bobbi Jo and her husband Tim welcomed us with the two puppies. We played with the puppies for awhile and then met the parents of both pups. The whole experience was very educational and enlightening. She pointed out various differences between the parents of the two pups. We found the adult dogs and puppies to be very well cared for. We finally decided to select one of the pups and name him Pablo. We were not allowed to take him home that day because he was not old enough. We arranged to meet Bobbi Jo and Tim two weeks later.

The next two weeks were spent preparing for our new puppy. After a long two weeks, we met Bobbi Jo, paid our balance and she gave us Pablo and all his documentation. We welcomed Pablo to our new home and continue to love him more each day. We took him to the vet the following week, and the vet noted that he was a healthy and happy puppy. Pablo is now almost six months old. He is a vital, warm member of our family. The whole experience has been extremely positive for me and my family. I highly recommend that anyone looking for a wonderful family pet should consider a puppy from Bobbi Jo Powell.

When we lost our 15 year old sheltie about a year ago, we were torn with whether or not to replace her with another family member. She had grown up with my daughters, and was the queen of our house. However, it became evident quickly that there was a void that had to be filled … so what to get?

We needed another ‘smaller family dog’ (according to my wife and daughters), but it had to be assertive enough to not be intimidated by our 130 pound loveable but playful St Bernard.

After doing a little bit of homework, I thought that maybe a West Highland White Terrier (because of their sturdy build, their ‘big dog in a little dog body’ attitude, and their intelligence and devotion to family) would be the perfect addition.

I did an internet search on ‘Westie’ breeders, and contacted Tim and Bobbi Jo Powell about their puppies. Of all the contacts that I made, Bobbi Jo’s response was both prompt and informative. Many responses were as simple as “here is what I have available, and here is how much they are” … but Bobbi Jo made it clear to me that they were looking for good homes for their puppies, with families that were knowledgeable about the traits (positive and negative) of the breed.

This meant a lot to me, our St Bernard was a rescue dog. Somebody bought a cute fluffy adorable puppy from a pet store without considering that some day she would be this large (but very lovable) slobbering dog that was not suited for just every household.

After talking with Bobbi Jo a couple more times, we decided to purchase one of their puppies. She kept us informed about Sammie Jo’s progress, providing growth updates, results of vet check-ups, and pictures. She even offered to call him by his new name as soon as we had decided on one.

Adoption time couldn’t come quick enough for us, so we made the 4 hour drive to pick him up instead of waiting a couple more days and meeting them half way as they had offered to do.

Sammie Jo had obviously been socialized and handled, as he responded well and adapted quickly to his new home.

I hope to have him for a very, very long time … but would not hesitate to get another Westie puppy from Tim and Bobbi Jo, or suggest Tim and Bobbi Jo Powell as a preferred Westie breeder to any other family looking to adopt a Westie!

Sincerely,

Jeff Tedrick and Family

About me:

We are a family run kennel that loves animals! We raise Cairn Terriers and West Highland White Terriers. We breed for temperament, quality, and the conformity of the breed. We do not show our dogs, but stay as close as possible to the breed standard. Our puppies are handled and loved from the day they are born until they are ready to be adopted. Our goal is to raise happy, healthy, playful puppies that will be your friend forever. We enjoy these breeds and the satisfaction that we get from knowing that we can raise healthy puppies and bring joy into peoples lives. All of our puppies get the best nutrition and veterinary care. They will have their first shots, be de-wormed, and vet-checked. All of our puppies have 5 vaccinations when they leave our kennel. Bordetella, NeoPar(2 vaccinations), and Intervet Brand Progard 6 (2 vaccinations) (Canine distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfluenza, Parvo Modified Live, Coronavirus killed). These vaccinations are administered by us (the breeder). The pups will have been vet-checked once before they leave us. This usually occurs when the puppies are 6-7 weeks old. Our puppies are registered.

All of our puppies are born and raised at our kennel. All of our puppies are sold directly from our kennel to individual families. We do not sell puppies to brokers, wholesalers, dealers, or petstores. We do not breed dogs that are related. We keep the puppies until they are 9 weeks old. You can visit to see the parents if you like or see the pictures on our parents pages. We require appointments for visiting our kennel, let us know when you want to come and we will schedule a visit. Our puppies are born in our kennel, we have a separate building for whelping only. After the puppies have had their first 3 shots we have playpens in the house and yard that the puppies spend time playing, socializing, and exercising in. Our adult breeding dogs are also in a kennel, they have inside and outside runs, it is heated and has air circulation fans, they always have toys to play with and each other. We feed our puppies Eukanuba Small Breed Puppy Formula, it is available to them all the time and they also have fresh, cold water available all the time. Our breeding dogs are fed Iams Mini-chunks. We clean and sanitize our kennel on a daily basis.

We do not allow anybody inside our kennel, because we do not want to contaminate it and/or bring in diseases. Our vet visits our kennel throughout the year. Our kennel is also inspected throughout the year by the Pennsylvania state dog wardens. Our kennel has also been inspected by AKC (American Kennel Club) and we are in compliance with all of the AKC's rules and regulations. If this does not answer all your questions, let us know what else you would like to know about us and our breeding program. We have no known health problems with our breeding dogs.

Here at PPF Farms Kennel we take pride in our dogs and breeding program. Take the time to look through our site and it will help answer any questions you may have, if not feel free to contact us. If you choose to get your next puppy from us, we will be available for the life of the dog to help you and answer any questions you may have. Our puppies sell quickly and we sell on a first come first serve basis, so if you are interested let us know as soon as possible. Email us for pictures of available puppies- simply click on the following email address: (info@ppffarmskennel.com).

As a professional dog breeder, we are often asked the question "Are you a Puppy Mill"? No we are not a puppy mill, we are a breeder. We breed only 2 breeds of dogs, Cairn Terriers and West Highland White Terriers. Then the next question asked is "How Many Litters Do You Have a Year"? That is a hard question to answer, our dogs are on a breeding schedule based on the individual dog. How often we choose to breed a dog depends on size, health, and temperament. We have puppies available every month/every other month because families are looking to buy a puppy at different times of the year, if we don't have puppies available, then they go somewhere else. We do run our kennel as a business, it is our livelihood. We both love animals and have the most respect for them. Usually next we are asked "Are Your Dogs In A Kennel"? Yes they are. Where else would they be? It is their home, den, safe place. It is heated and cooled, cleaned/santized on a daily basis. Then comes "How Many Dogs Do You Have"? We have 70 dogs, those include puppies/young adults/breeders/pets. We only raise/buy dogs that are healthy, social, and conform to the breed standard. "Do You Allow Visitors"? Yes (by appointment), we are proud of our puppies / dogs / kennel / breeding program. We have nothing to hide.

For those of you who read this and still have your doubts, this is what we want to ask you. Do you know us? Have you ever been to our kennel or seen our dogs? Do you know how hard we work to care for our dogs and how much money we spend to maintain them and our kennel? Do you know how many times we get out of bed in the middle of night to check on a new mom and feed new babies? Some times an entire day/night is spent in the kennel caring for mom and newborns. Do you know how many trips we make to our vet or how many trips he makes here so we can provide medical care? Do you know that our dogs and kennel are inspected throughout the year by our vet, AKC and the PA Dog Wardens? Do you know that we are licensed by the PA Department of Agriculture? Don't prejudge us or our kennel. We are who you should buy your puppy from. We are professionals.

"A Breeder is one who thrists for knowledge and never really knows it all and doesn't pretend he does...One who wrestles with many decisions...A Breeder is one who sacrifices personal interests, finances, time, fancy furniture...He gives up dreams of a long, luxurious vacation...Besides, who would watch/care for the dogs while he was gone...He goes without sleep in hours spent planning, cleaning, watching anxiously over the birth process and afterwards, over every little sneeze, wiggle, or cry...He skips parties because that litter is due or the babies have to be fed...His lap is a marvelous place where generations of happy, healthy and loved babies have snoozed...And still do...His hands are strong and firm, but ever so gentle and sensitive to the thrusts of a puppy's wet nose...His shoulders are stooped and often heaped with abuse from unkind words of those who don't understand, but wide enough to support the weight of a thousand "Thank You's" from happy new families...His arms are always able to weild a mop, support an armful of puppies or lend a helping hand to a newcomer...but can't hold grudges or hold onto unpleasant ridicule...His ears are wondrous things, sometimes red(from being talked about) or strangley shaped (from being pressed against a phone receiver,) yet always fine-tuned to the whimper of a puppy or an oncoming storm...His eyes may be blurred from research and paperwork, but they are ever so keen to what a healthy, happy puppy looks and acts like...His brain is sometimes foggy on faces, but can recall how many were in a litter four years ago that prodeced a certain puppy...it's so full of knowledge that sometimes it blows a fuse: it catalogues thousands of colors, sizes, and perfect temperaments...His heart is sometimes broken but it beats strongly with hope everlasting...and it is always in the right place!"
