The same radical right-wing groups behind Florida's divisive Amendment 2 are at it again. This time they are promoting Gainesville's Charter Amendment 1, which is designed to take existing basic anti-discrimination protections away from the city's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender residents.
Progress Florida has joined groups as diverse as the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce, Gainesville City Commission, Equality Florida, ACLU of Florida and Planned Parenthood in opposition to the Charter Amendment. It is critical that this measure be defeated because we know that if it works in Gainesville the radical right will try it in other Florida cities - and on issues that extend beyond rights for LGBT Floridians. For more details read our blog entryhere.
Every ten years, politicians in Tallahassee rig the playing field by carving out districts designed to keep them in power. They pick their voters rather than the voters picking them.
That's how President Obama convincingly won Florida, yet Republicans in the legislature maintained their ironclad majorities.
Progress Florida promotes progressive values through online organizing, media outreach, networking with Florida's leading progressive organizations, and empowering citizens (that's you) to push for progressive change throughout the Sunshine State. Please join us for our next open house this Saturday from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at our office located at 233 3rd St. North in St. Petersburg.
This is a wonderful opportunity to gather with professionals, family members, loved ones, and persons with borderline personality disorder in a safe and welcoming environment. We'll have plenty of wine, eggnog, and appetizers to share.
We'll also be joined by Kiera Van Gelder. Ms. Van Gelder is an educator and a strong advocate for persons with BPD. She is the creator of Middle Path and also spoke about her recovery from BPD this past spring at an NEA-BPD conference.
Intern opportunity for psych/social work/nursing undergrads
FBPDA—a 501(c)(3) organization—is looking for 1 or 2 interns for the fall '08/spring '09 semesters.
Potential interns will have a strong desire to learn more about BPD, self-injury, and related co-morbidities and have an aspiration for helping others through psychoeducational programs.
FBPDA requires that interns have excellent writing and research skills while possessing an ability to think critically and creatively.
If you can give approximately 3 hours a week during the fall/spring semesters, we'd love to hear from you. College credit can usually be arranged. Contact your student adviser for additional information.
FBPDA will be holding an open house on Tuesday, August 5 from 5:30 until 7:00. Please take the time to drop by, share a glass of wine with friends and colleagues, and learn a little more about what we're all about. Our office is located at 233 3rd St. North in St. Petersburg.

First we want to say thank you for your support and awareness on this very important issue for it is an issue that touches and affects each one of us.
You will be hearing much more from us as we move forward with this campaign. We are currently prioritizing the need for healthcare insurance for the women and children of America. We are reaching out to the community, asking that the community as well, communicate this issue of healthcare for women and children to everyone that they feel understands the issue and priority of healthcare for women and children.
We ask that individuals and communities get involved to support comprehensive healthcare for women and children.
We encourage everyone to communicate to the candidates running for national office (Congress and the White House) that we will support and vote for a common sense plan for national healthcare insurance for the women and children of America.
Effortless Fundraising at Memsaic. com. Thank you for the add. I hope we can help you raise money and awareness for causes and organizations that you care about.
