Luis Ruiz was born on November 21, 1979 in Sun Valley , CA. Luis has been tattooing since 1993. He had started drawing at an early age. It was in third grade that his teacher noticed that he had this hidden talent. He remembers that he loved using his imagination to create the unimaginable. At the age of 14, with his homemade tattoo machine in hand he inked his very first skull on himself. After familiarizing himself with sterilization legalities, before he knew it he was creating his wicked interpretations of demons, zombies, and gory skulls on relatives, friends, and neighbors. Within a few years, he was tattooing professionally. He looks forward to a challenge, suggesting that as an artist if you aren’t being challenged then your artwork won’t improve. Throughout the years, Luis has tried to develop his own style, which he describes as dark and demonic. He loves to distort images and create things that are going to leave an impression in your mind. In addition to tattooing, Luis also enjoys oil painting, sculpting, graphite art, prisma colors, and latex mask making. He believes that anything you can draw or paint, a good artist can tattoo. His influences include horror art, surrealism, renaissance art, and human anatomy. Since owning The Pain Parlor in 2003 he maintains that it is all about the artwork. He considers himself very versatile and strives to make each and every tattoo unique. He’s proud to say that you won’t see him do the same tattoo twice. Luis loves to do large custom pieces, back pieces, head pieces, sleeves, etc. Luis enjoys working conventions so check out his calendar to see if he will be in a city near you!
