Cal Olson, Whistles, Windsynth (Wind Controller), Keyboards, Bass
Influences
70's pop, some great whistle players like Michael McGoldrick, Joanie Madden, Phil Hardy and others, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, David Benoit, Michael Card, Fernando Ortega, Bob Bennett, Sara Groves, Todd Agnew, Selah, Ginny Owens, Casting Crowns (even though my music doesn't sound ANYTHING like any of these folks!)
Sounds Like
Instrumental, relaxing, new age-y, inspirational... the kind of music you want playing in the background while you snuggle in a chair reading a book on a rainy day.

A solo act, I play a variety of instruments and a variety of music. I perform on low whistles (Irish whistles, tin whistles, or pennywhistles), windsynth (or wind controller), and other things including recorders, ocarina and melodica. I play everything from jazz to folk to praise & worship, and some of my own original songs which are smooth jazz/new age sounding.
Places I play at include West Michigan retirement communities, and background music at banquets (including the WCSG Father-Daughter banquet for the last 5 years), parties, weddings and other special events. I've performed at the Meijer Gardens a couple of times, which is always a great thrill!
When I do a wedding, the bride and groom really get their money's worth - I play organ and keyboard as well, so I'll often be asked to play my whistles and windsynth for the prelude and postlude, and play the organ for the bride's procesisonal down the asile, and then to accompany the singers on piano. One video cameraman said this at a wedding I played at: "I've never seen one musician do so many different things at one wedding!"
What can I say? I love to play, and it shows! :-D Layout Provided By FreeCodeSource.com - Myspace Layouts

Hi Cal, thanks for the add. You make some great relaxing music. It's a nice change to what I usually listen to.

Happy belated birthday! (My memory is about as full as my fathers hair...).
So the fam and I (though I guess I'd be counted in the "fam" part) are headed to town next week. We'll be up from Wednesday afternoon through Sunday (as I'm sure you're aware). What is the availability of the Olson's during that time?
