Richard (Buck) Fudge and Don (Nearly) Staley began their songwriting codependency in the late 1980s while performing in local girl-group dance band Hormones a Go Go Featuring the Fabulous Creamettes. By 1990, Hormones a Go Go had gone gone, and so Buck and Nearly regrouped as The Nailbiters and cooked up an all original, nine-song cassette titled "Ham" in 1991. During a period of weakness the next year, drummer Dennis Leas (Stone Soup, Dr. Fine and d'Gleet) and bassist Joe Salmons (The Frogs) joined The Nailbiters for several performances in Lafayette, Indianapolis, and Muncie, Indiana. The group brewed up eleven new original songs for their 1993 CD "Two Dogs Drink." Graphic designer John Frigo made the mistake of creating CD art work and layout, and has awakened every night since drenched in sweat and screaming like a little girl. Buck and Nearly regrouped with the US Postal Service and continued their little addiction after Nearly moved to Georgia in 1992.
By 1995, Buck was developing a rash...no, a collection of new original songs with bassist Dave Reason (Five Dollar Hayride, Dr. Fine and d'Gleet), drummer Dave Kellam (Icemakers of the Revolution), violinist Jessica Billey (Velmas, Mekons), tater-flautist Rob Reason (Five Dollar Hayride, Fergus Daly Band), guitarist Matt Speake (Vulgar Boatmen), and Nearly (Lubbock exile). The band's name was born on New Year's Eve when Buck, Reason, and Kellam performed blindfolded as The Prannies. In 1997, The Prannies released the twelve song cassette "Hootie Tootie."
By 2002, Nearly had rejoined Buck and Reason. The least unfortunate result was the 2004 EP "Roundy." Shortly thereafter, Reason lured bassist Steve Wolf (East of Eden) to a pit in his basement and the quartet set to work performing and recording new original songs. The result was the 2006 EP "Splat!" Well, that and Wolf lost a lot of weight.
After Reason and Wolf escaped the band in 2007, The Prannies tricked drummer Gary (Gaz) Ward and bassist Dick (DL) Landrum into joining. DL, who grew up on country and western radio and will not stop bragging about the time he helped load in The Who at the Indiana Beach Ballroom in the late 1960s, has been performing with area bands since then including H.O. Brown, Lear Jet, Joker, and Hat Trikk. Gaz hasn't turned in his bio, yet, but rumor has it his grandson, Blake, taught him everything he knows. TURN IN YOUR BIO, YOU PRANNY!
The Prannies are currently at work on a full length CD of new original songs which will be complete soon. Really.
