Let’s just put it out there: we are here for one reason…Robert Pattinson. But the purpose of this myspace goes way beyond the eyecandy and drool factors of the normal fan.
The idea for this mission was conceived by three friends, three hardcore Twilighters, three young women with unwavering support for actor Robert Pattinson. We have followed Rob throughout his journey to stardom. We have stood in line in the pouring rain for a glimpse of our favourite actor. We have loyally kept tabs on every project, every new film of his in the making.
But this isn’t about us. This is about Rob.
Robert Pattinson was catapulted into what seems like overnight fame when he signed on for the role of Edward Cullen in the film adaptation of Twilight. Teenage girls across the world were suddenly screaming his name in public and plastering his face on their bedroom walls. “Robert Pattinson” quickly became a household name. The media marveled at how this man went from being a “nobody” to a star so quickly.
But we know better. Robert Pattinson has never been a “nobody”. A respected and insanely talented actor (and musician), he has held our fascination since long before Twilight, and our amazement for him continues to grow with each interview, each new project. However, as excited for him as we all are, we cannot help but also worry. Hollywood has corrupted so many promising talents before now. People lose sight of who they are when they let the fame get to them. They forget where they come from. Take Heath Ledger (RIP). He’s just the most recent example of the effects Hollywood has on these people.
We do not claim to know Rob. We don’t know how his mind works, we’re not psychics. But we think many can agree with us when we see it seems pretty obvious that Rob doesn’t quite know what to do with this new-found fame. Rob has said before that he doesn’t know how to handle any of this, that he doesn’t understand why exactly people adore him so much. None of us want to see Rob become victim to Hollywood.
Let’s show him that there are people out there who couldn’t care less that he played Edward Cullen, that it’s not why we love him. We love him for being the funny, quirky, intellectual, thoughtful, painfully modest, and socially awkward man he is.
Prayers for Pattinson is just what it seems: fans taking time out of their day to say a little prayer for Rob. To send some love to the Big Man Upstairs for Rob and asking that he stays grounded, happy, and healthy as he battles the monster we call show business. While this mission’s founders are all Christians, this is in no way limited to just one religion. Fans of all faiths are welcome to join us in showing some love for Rob and sending words of encouragement his way. Tell your friends! Imagine if Rob had hundreds, even thousands of supporters praying for him every day.
