pray for polanski have a new full-length out on f nice records. called “the death of dennis patrick robbins.”
overall, the style isn’t too much different from that displayed on “the ghost and bones,” their 6-song ep that was one of my favorites from last year. you might say it’s one part rockabilly, two parts country gothic, and seven parts straight-ahead rock and roll. but the production is a bit more polished on the new album, which suits the music well. and the songwriting, though certainly a strength on the ep, is even better and more consistent on this new disk.
but, as fans of pray for polanski know, the very good turns to great for this band when aviv rubinstein and anne warnock’s vocals join together. just like john doe and exene’s used to. and best of all, there are a lot of those moments on the new album.
you can download several of the songs from “the death of dennis patrick robbins” here for free, courtesy of the fine folks at f nice.

songwriting is not dead! if you catch one of boston-based pray for polanki’s shows, you’ll be treated to a usually up-tempo smorgasbord of loud, oddball imagery. the group is fronted by singer/songwriter/guitarist/occasional instigator aviv rubinstien, who is backed by the sweet harmonies of vocalist anne warnock (sometimes, she’ll play the tambourine if you ask nicely). the four-piece rounds out with drummer dan ramspacher, and andrew muro on bass. not to be missed live, catch the band at one of their boston haunts or on tour in support of the EP “the ghost and bones.” – laura hayner
the weekly dig
...their first album, the ghost and bones, have a range filled with twangs of rockabilly-by-way-of-a-detroit-garage to slicker tracks that show off a more pop, hook-driven sensibility. the style changes almost as rapidly as the band's membership...

pray For polanski - the ghost and bones EP: (number 10) top 10 favorite local records of 2008.
pray for polanski formed in a boston basement in 2006 with singer/guitarist songwriter aviv rubinstien and dan (the drummer) ramspacher. taking their name from a piece of graffiti written on a basement wall, PFP plays a unique mixture of rock and roll, punk, folk, blues and rockabilly to make a sound fast, loud and energetic while at once being thoughtful and well-crafted.
pray for polanski cut their teeth at allston staple great scott in january of 2007 and since then, their dance card has been full, playing shows at the middle east (upstairs and downstairs), TT the bear’s place, and harper’s ferry as well as allston basements, living rooms and attics. the band has a strict, any show, anywhere, any time policy. dual vocals and fast and tight songs have become a trademark of pray for polanski’s unique sound.
a chance encounter added vocal powerhouse anne warnock to the band in december of 2007, as the co-lead singer and andrew muro rose to the job of being the band’s bassist mere days before their first U.S. tour in august 2008.
the band has had a long list of members, some sticking around for years, some only passing through for a single show. to date the band has had 18 different members: the four current and 14 alumni.
the band’s first EP “the ghost and bones” was released in july 2008, and was on “noise boston’s” top 10 albums of the month until the end of 2008. the ghost and bones was also 10 on WZBC’s top albums of 2008.
PFP has played with nationally and internationally renown acts such as neva dinova, howlies, bryan scary, FOALS, the ruby suns, humanwine, and illinois. a full list of bands they’ve played with is on their website. their positive attitude, energetic live show and clever, meaningful songs make them an un-missable presence on the boston scene.
their first full length release “the death of dennis patrick robbins” was released in july of 2009 on allston label f-nice records.
