Open Ear Music was established in 2006 by Matthew 'Preki' Lawrence and Davy Dunbar. These two have been friends from back in High School at Wolmer's Boys School and ended up going to the same university. Both are always caught up with the new riddims, new artists and it was due to their love and passion for the music that the two decided to undertake a project together.Out of this their first project, THE NATURAL BREEZE RIDDIM was born.After teaming up with M-City music on the version the two decided to voice a few artists which proved rather difficult being new comers in the game.After months of ' go roun' by the artistes, the two stuck to their belief that good music always shines whether its a big or small artists and they voiced who they could and out now is the pre release of The Natural Breeze Riddim.Artists on the riddim are Munga,Delly Ranx, Chino,Leftside and Esco, Cezar,Calico, Jubilant (son on a noted politician) and Empress (vibrant host of RETV).The pre realese is doing quite well blazing radio stations in Jamaica,Miami,New York,Canada, Holland,England just to name a few.
After Natural Breeze riddim, preki and davy decided said to themselves, whats next??? Seeing that the last riddim was a one drop, they decided to venture into the dancehall circle and as such they teamed up with K-Swizz from Mandeville and created the 'PEPPAGRAIN RIDDIM'. This hard thumping dancehall riddim features some of the best artistes in the dancehall namely; Vybz Kartel with the runaway street hit Fatta dan a Pound,Elephant Man, Sizzla,Munga,Wayne Marshall&Future Fambo, Burro Banton, Mr Easy,Delly Ranks and others.Peppagrain riddim was well received both locally and internationally reaching 1 status on OUTAROAD.COM and occupying several chart positions on BBC 1 XTRA (UK) peaking at 4;this is Open Ear's most successful project to date.
After the success of Peppagrain Riddim, producers Preki and Davy decided that it was time for another one drop riddim as the market was saturated with dancehall.Hence they teamed up with Chimney Records masterminds, Jordan and Hizzle to create the Pure White Riddim. This smooth, mellow electric guitar infused one drop riddim first caught the ears of Reggae Legend Jr Reid who voiced the track, 'Never Let You Go'.Following Reid's track was Lutan Fyah, Konshens, Delly Ranx, Aisha, Esco. Pure White Riddim hit the radio stations late September and has been enjoying favorouble play and have 'open ears' of record label execs. Open Ear Music is currently working on a fast paced techno sounding dancehall riddim entitled 'Mad Rave' which will be out very soon.
