Prelude to Damnation was formed in 1998 by vocalist Ted Gasper(ex-Sennacherib), and guitarist Jonathan Easterlin. Ted and Jonathan met while living in the same dorm in college, where Jonathan kept Ted up all night with his guitar solos from the room directly above him. Later, Ted and guitarist Ramsey Alteria met at an Angelcorpse show in Raleigh, and Ramsey decided to move to be a part of the band. Soon, Matt "Catfish" Creighton joined the band as well, first on bass, then on guitar when Ramsey left the band to form Charlotte black metal band Apotheosys. To fill the newly vacant bass slot, James O'Neal(who was already playing with Ted in his other band Burn the Blood) was brought into the band. Drummers seemed to drift in and out of the band during its early existence, causing the band to focus more on songwriting than playing an abundant amount of shows: Robbie Mercer(Nocturnal Fear, Ascendancy), Will Goodyear(Prayer For Cleansing, Between the Buried and Me), and Bennie Powell(The Kickass, Valient Thorr), to name a few. The band played shows and toured through 2003 with the likes of: Between the Buried and Me, The Kickass, Kalibas, Creation Is Crucifixion, Bongzilla, Weedeater, Valient Thorr, Apotheosys, Commit Suicide, Harikari, Prayer For Cleansing, ... and recorded a "rough" sounding demo with the "classic" line-up before Ted eventually left the band due to personal reasons. The band continued on, mostly as an instrumental band for a short time, but soon called it quits as members moved on to new projects and interests. Today, Ted Gasper plays guitar in NC melodic thrash band Burn the Blood, Jonathan Easterlin plays guitar in NC rock/heavy metal band Dragon Seeks Path, James O'Neil plays bass in NC black metal band Apotheosys, and the death metal band Atrocious Abnormality, Bennie Powell plays guitar in Valient Thorr, and Catfish is playing with ex-members of The Kickass in a new project. We'll keep you posted.
Update: 9/1/7 NEW PRELUDE TO DAMNATION ALBUM IN THE WORKS!!! We will be entering the studio soon to record our new cd, which will contain all the songs from our demo re-recorded, plus one song from our ep re-recorded WITH VOCALS! This is definitely a recent development, but it is definitely happening, and Thomas Clark of Raleigh band Jonin will be handling the production. The recording line-up will be:
Ted Gasper-vocals
Jonathan Easterlin-guitars
James O'Neal-bass
Ben Baldwin(also in Burn the Blood)-drums
We are SUPER excited to bring you this news, so stay tuned!!! No decisions have been made as of yet to play any live shows, but we'll see... -Ted
Of course you know I like the songs. I miss those days when you guys played too! For all those who do check this site out, check out Ted's new project Burn The Blood. James Oneal is in Apotheosys. Both bands are on myspace. Check em out and the band The Kickass as well!
