I can’t believe it’s been nearly a month since we launched the GLEE audition platform, in partnership with FOX. And guess what?! There are only three days left to get in those submissions. The casting call will officially close April 26 at 11:59 am PT you do NOT want to miss the deadline. If you haven’t already checked out the GLEE Auditions profile page, head to www.myspace.com/gleeauditions to find hilarious and seriously talented performances from the fresh, young performers nationwide who are vying for a sport on the show’s second season.

As a hub of pop culture and discovery, we’re constantly providing fans with more ways to access the entertainment they enjoy most and jumped at the opportunity to create the exclusive place for fans to “GLEEk Out.” Of course, the most rewarding part is seeing the overwhelming response we’ve already received from the MySpace community.

On Monday, MySpace General Counsel Lin Cherry met with an audience of attorneys, developers, and business leaders at ALM’s ‘Social Media: Risks and Rewards’ conference in San Francisco for a candid conversation about the challenges and opportunities social media affords. The conference explored the transformative effect social media has had on law, industry, and the workplace, and Lin brought her considerable expertise in dealing with the specific legal issues that arise as social media becomes increasingly ubiquitous.

Joining Lin was Fred Davis, a founding partner of the law firm of Davis, Shapiro, Lewit, Montone & Hayes and most recently a founding partner of the investment bank CODE Advisors. A longtime music attorney, Fred has extensive experience not only representing highly successful artists but also is considered one of the leading experts in the area of digital music, rights and distribution. Fred has been on the front lines in helping to advise digital media companies, including MySpace, on the thorny issues surrounding digital music distribution. Through CODE Advisors, Fred continues to advise companies in the music industry as well as the broader media and technology industries, on mergers and acquisitions and capital raising.

At MySpace, everything we do is designed to further discovery, self-expression and broadcasting of content – all of which are best facilitated through an open social experience. We recognize the value of teaming up with other innovative companies to further the open Web and enable users to connect, share, and discover their favorite entertainment.

Today, we’re excited to announce that MySpace and other industry leaders like Google, Microsoft, Yahoo! are supporting Meebo as the company introduces the XAuth framework (http://xauth.org), an open technology platform designed to increase social engagement by making it easier for users to share content no matter where they are online.

In support of our goal to continuously provide MySpace users with new ways to discover and share the best of pop culture, we’re adding a Google Buzz button to help people share their favorite MySpace videos across a variety of social mediums. As with MySpace, Google Buzz represents an active community that is already sharing and discussing interesting content on the web.

Beginning this week, when watching a MySpace video our users will find the option to select Google Buzz, as well as Facebook, TweetMeme and Digg, providing more ways than ever before to experience videos both on and off MySpace. Users can also continue to post videos on their profile, share it in their activity stream, save to a Favorites list and offer viewer ratings to keep their MySpace community updated on the hottest videos around.

Young adults expect a mobile experience that lets them easily stay in touch with the people and entertainment they care about. They’re the same group that turns to MySpace to discover new content, so we’re excited to be a part of Microsoft’s KIN launch today.

MySpace is part of the social experience built into the phone and is deeply integrated in the operating system and its magazine-style format. What’s unique about this handset is that it’s designed first and foremost for a social experience. For example, as a user is setting up the new device, they’re prompted to log-in to their social sites – including MySpace – before they can even make a phone call.

Home to millions of established and emerging musical artists as well as one of the largest and most engaged music audiences on the web, MySpace Music has the unique ability to build “band to fan” connections at a grand scale. This is a responsibility we take very seriously and as a result we’re always working to provide artists with new and creative opportunities to build communities of passionate fans across our platform, and also present the most exciting and compelling young artists to our community.

Central to this mission is our one-of-a-kind “Introducing…” program, designed to champion the new artists most poised for the big-time. While our crack editorial staff keeps their ear to the streets for the most promising new sounds, our own community often tells us what’s happening before we’ve even heard it! It then becomes our responsibility to “introduce” these budding performers to our broader audience through a series of content premieres and features, most of which are exclusive to MySpace Music. After months of searching, listening, and passionate “discussions”, we couldn’t be more excited to share Taio Cruz, Janelle Monáe, AM Taxi and Delphic with the rest of the world as the latest members of the “Introducing…”
