MYSPACE EXPANDS MOBILE SOCIAL ENTERTAINMENT EXPERIENCE WITH NEW MOBILE SITE AND IPHONE APPLICATION
by Myspace Nov 29, 2010 at 8:00 PMBeverly Hills, CA – Nov. 30, 2010 – Today, Myspace announced a new mobile website and iPhone application to further extend the site’s social entertainment experience to mobile devices. With more than a third of Myspace’s Gen Y users interacting with the site on mobile devices every day, these new offerings meet their desire to consume entertainment news and content anytime, anywhere and from any device.
“We have a two-pronged approach to our mobile strategy,” said Michael Jones, chief executive officer for Myspace. “We are creating the best experience for Myspace mobile web users by taking the most compelling entertainment elements of Myspace.com and making them portable, while simultaneously building a portfolio of independent mobile applications tailored specifically to entertainment categories. This approach allows us to offer a meaningful social entertainment experience on mobile that is both fast and engaging.”
The new Myspace mobile website is accessible today on all iPhone, iPod Touch, Android, Palm and select Nokia and BlackBerry devices and provides users with:
- A rich discovery experience around entertainment;
- Music: Breaking news and status updates from top artists
- Video: TMZ, Fuel TV, FOX, National Geographic, Movie Trailers and more
- Celebrity: Status updates, photos and blogs
- The ability to easily share photos, videos, links, status updates and more across multiple networks
- The option to enjoy without logging in
The Myspace iPhone app, which will be available in the coming weeks, will provide an experience that is centered on the activity stream. In addition to providing updates from the top celebrities and artists on Myspace, the application will automatically populate a user’s stream with the trending activities of his or her favorite musicians based on the titles in the user’s iTunes library. For example, if a user has music from specific bands on his or her phone, the Myspace iPhone app will automatically populate the user’s stream with updates from those bands.
Much like the new mobile website, the iPhone app will provide tools for easy sharing across networks and will not require users to be logged in. As part of Myspace’s mobile application portfolio, the new iPhone app will be a complement to the many other mobile applications currently available including:
- Myspace Music Videos: Myspace Music Videos offers music fans a new expression of randomized video discovery based on their mood via our MySpace Music Romeo application on the web or iPad.
- Drawler for iPhone: Drawler is a fun, photo styling app that lets you draw, color or add stickers, art, words and more to your mobile photos.
- Logo a Gogo: a fun new project providing users with artistic tools to create, personalize and share their own Myspace logos.
To access the new Myspace mobile site visit http://m.myspace.com. The Myspace iPhone app will be available for download in the iTunes store in the coming weeks.

MYSPACE STATEMENT: FTC SETTLEMENT
by Christine Moore May 08, 2012 at 12:20 PMMYSPACE SETTLES FTC CHARGES THAT IT MISLED MILLIONS OF USERS ABOUT SHARING PERSONAL INFORMATION WITH ADVERTISERS
Settlement Will Require Regular Privacy Assessments for the Next 20 YearsMay 8, 2012
Consumer privacy has always been a chief concern at Specific Media. That’s why we’ve been active members of the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI), the International Advertising Sales Houses (IASH), the Internet Advertising Bureau’s (IAB) and the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA). Additionally, we demonstrated our commitment to privacy by becoming one of the earliest adopters of the DAA’s Ad Choices Program, which provides consumers with unprecedented information and control over the delivery of targeted advertisements to their web browsers.
Since acquiring Myspace in June 2011, we’ve set out to create a social entertainment experience around connecting, sharing and discovering content. Of equal importance, we have extended this commitment to privacy protection and industry best practice to Myspace.
Of course, part of creating the ultimate social entertainment destination is allowing users to feel comfortable and secure about the information they share. Myspace has a long history of developing cutting-edge tools for controlling how information is used and shared. Yet, there is always room for improvement. That’s why one of our first actions after acquiring Myspace was to thoroughly examine the company’s business practices and, where applicable, make improvements. A major focus of this review was to ensure that Myspace delivered advertisements to consumers in a manner that safeguarded their privacy. Applying our expertise in online advertising, we successfully improved upon Myspace’s historical practices, bringing the social media platform to the forefront of industry best practice for ad delivery.
In order to put any questions regarding Myspace’s pre-acquisition advertising practices behind us, Myspace has reached an agreement with the FTC that makes a formal commitment to our community to accurately disclose how their information is used and shared. Myspace has further agreed to implement a comprehensive privacy program that will minimize future risks to the privacy and security of information. As part of this program, Myspace will conduct biennial independent audits of its privacy practices to ensure that we consistently fulfill this commitment to our commnunity. Similar agreements have been entered into by other industry leaders over the past several months.
We’re pleased to share this update with you today, and are proud of our ongoing commitment to be an industry leader in matters of consumer privacy. We will continue to improve Myspace’s services in the coming months, rolling out new products and features that will enhance your ability to connect socially with your friends, while offering you even greater control over the use and disclosure of your information.
Thank you.

MYSPACE GETS INTIMATE WITH ARTISTS IN “ONE-TWO-WATCH™” SERIES
by Myspace Apr 04, 2012 at 11:41 AMU.K. Breakthrough Artist Emeli Sandé to Appear in Unique Interview Format Showcasing First American Performance, Debuts Today on Myspace
BEVERLY HILLS, CALIF. – April 04, 2012 – Myspace (www.myspace.com) announced today that it plans to serialize its highly successful intimate music interviews, featuring a unique format that combines never- before-seen footage and personally revealing interviews with new and emerging artists. Dubbed “One-Two-Watch,” the series debuts today on the social entertainment destination, offering a rare glimpse into U.K. sensation Emeli Sandé on and off the stage.
The new “One-Two-Watch” episode delves into the Scottish-born singer and songwriter’s propulsion to fame in the U.K., offering an in-depth look at the rising star and portraying her first-ever show on American soil. The vocalist was named Critic’s Choice at the Brit Awards this year and will be in the U.S. this summer opening for Coldplay, with whom she toured the U.K. in December, in a series of arena shows.
Sandé, who is coming off a string of well-received shows in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Minneapolis as part of her North American debut, is one of the handpicked talents that Myspace has identified as a key artist with a unique sound, set to influence new music.
“Myspace was always the place where music fans could hear what was new. I’m excited to see the brand refocus on this with the ‘One-Two-Watch’ series,” said Scott Vener (@brokemogul), lead curator for Myspace, “By identifying and curating what’s next, the series simplifies the discovery process for people, helping reactivate passive listeners around their passion for music.” Vener was previously the music supervisor to “Entourage,” “90210” and “How to Make it in America,” and is known for having a keen ear for fresh and unexpected sounds.
Myspace created the series to support new voices and breakthrough talent while providing an opportunity for fans to discover new artists first.
“We are excited to see how Myspace’s ‘One-Two-Watch’ series can play its role in breaking our new artists and introducing them to audiences, thirsty for undiscovered music,” said Charlotte Robertson, who oversees digital marketing for EMI Music/Capitol Records. “We’re pleased Myspace has selected Emeli as its next ‘One-Two-Watch’ and know that fans will not be disappointed when they watch her extraordinary piece.”
Previous successes for the program have included interviews with Machine Gun Kelly, The Alabama Shakes and Lana Del Rey. Future “One-Two-Watch” episodes will focus on other breakthrough artists and air monthly in concert with corresponding album release dates.
Fans can catch Myspace’s latest “One-Two-Watch” episode at www.myspace.com

FOX DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT’S “LET’S BIG HAPPY” TO PREMIERE MARCH 28 ON MYSPACE AND A VARIETY OF DIGITAL STORES
by Myspace Mar 13, 2012 at 12:15 PMTaco Bell® is Exclusive Brand Partner on New Scripted Series About Indie Music
LOS ANGELES – March 13, 2012 – LET’S BIG HAPPY, a new scripted web series from Fox Digital Entertainment, will launch March 28 on Myspace and a variety of digital download stores. Taco Bell is the exclusive brand partner for the show’s first season, which will run for seven episodes. The series, which was directed by Brendan Colthurst and stars Angela Sarafyan, features exciting music performances by Andrew W.K., Chiddy Bang, We Are Scientists, Math the Band, Generationals and The Gay Blades, who are all part of Taco Bell’s Feed the Beat® program supporting up-and-coming artists. Ensemble, the branded entertainment arm of IPG Mediabrands, engineered the partnership. A first-look premiere of LET’S BIG HAPPY will take place today at the SXSW Film Conference in Austin, TX.
Zany and optimistic, Olive Shipley starts a music blog called ‘Let’s Big Happy’, which is dedicated to helping bands launch their careers. When bands seek out her talents, Olive’s ingenuity propels them into the spotlight as she pulls off absurd, attention-seeking stunts. Her visions are always bizarre and rarely go according to plan, but with the help of Andrew W.K. and an unreal number of tacos, Olive’s own career takes off beyond her expectations and ‘Let’s Big Happy’ becomes an Internet sensation. Underlining the synergistic nature of the partnership, the show’s final episode will feature Taco Bell’s new Doritos Locos Tacos, a product that launched at restaurants nationwide earlier this month.
“We are excited to further our partnership with Myspace with a show like LET’S BIG HAPPY,” said Matt Glotzer, senior vice president, Fox Digital Entertainment. “With independent music as its focus, the series could not have a better launchpad.”
“Taco Bell is a brand of firsts, continually at the forefront of traditional and social entertainment partnerships, and we are always looking for new ways to authentically connect with our fans,” said Brian Niccol, Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer, Taco Bell Corp. “Fox Digital understands that — and has been a great partner, leveraging our passion for music and our Feed the Beat program. ‘Let’s Big Happy’ integrates Taco Bell and Feed the Beat in a way that is organic to the series and supports our new branding efforts to Live Más.”
LET’S BIG HAPPY marks the second distribution partnership between Fox Digital Entertainment and Myspace for an original web series. Myspace is also currently airing the eight-episode Fox-produced WOLFPACK OF RESEDA, sponsored by Kia Motors America, and also in conjunction with Ensemble. Fox Digital Entertainment is a division of 20th Century Fox dedicated to creating new and innovative content for emerging distribution channels.
Myspace will maximize distribution across its extensive content sharing ecosystem to promote LET’S BIG HAPPY and connect the Myspace community to extraordinary music artists.
“LET’S BIG HAPPY is a stage for up-and-coming musical acts and provides an incredible opportunity to reach fans worldwide,” said Roger Mincheff, president, Myspace Entertainment. “The new web series is in sync with Myspace’s unwavering commitment to developing artists. We’re thrilled to join forces with Fox Digital Entertainment to deliver on our promise to create and serve up original must-watch online programming.”
The LET’S BIG HAPPY web series and Olive’s blog will be available at: www.myspace.com/letsbighappy and www.myspace.com/letsbighappy/blog.
