....My Dad played drums in a Jazz/R&B local band .He used to play along with records and stare at me while he played along for what seemed like hours and he would ask " you hear dat ? ".He would take me to band rehearsal ( and sometimes to the Drag Strip ) and I would beg to go back. I thought what they were doing was FLY. My Uncle told me "man , don't be no damn musician ,I'm serious ". My other Uncle said " ...don't you remember it was me that got you started in music ? "My mom listened to Gospel on TV and AM Radio. She would turn it up loud and put it halfway on the station ( analog dial) so that the static and noise would wake me up and I'd have to come in and fix it . My Great Aunt had a small but strong record collection. Her sister, my Aunt Annie Lou- had a retauraunt with a jukebox in it ,and a Club/ Jukejoint where a band or Dj played in a small town on the GA./Fla. border ( that place was the joint). My great Uncles and my Grand Father used to sing in the choir together and my Pop says they used to tear the church up.I was always around good music and I listened a lot , and I loved music like everyone else probably did.Sometimes though ,you always feel you love it just a little bit more.I wanted to play the guitar, but my cousin told me not to copy him( he was getting one that year) So I got a bass ;I got my first one at 16.Went to Berklee in Boston and met some great people and great players. My favorite players were Marcus Miller ,Bootsy Collins, Anthony Jackson, and Rodney "Skeet" Curtis but I listened to'em all, specially if they had some style.... not all the style, just some.Bootsy really did it for me though , from his playing ,to his glasses to the Space Bass , he blew my mind. .. .. Moved to Atlanta and joined the local band Game. We later morphed into a new pre -neo soul group called Bluphoria. We were signed to Elektra, and later dropped.I don't think they got it and we probably were'nt marketable to them.Played on my first record with Organized Noize and Parental Advisory, followed by Outkast.I put in work with the Dungeon Family ( Goodie Mob, Mista , Cool Breeze ,Envogue, TLC and many others ) and we made a lot of Great records.I later got to work with Dr.Dre on Chronic 2001 and I played on "the Next Episode ".For the last few years I've been recording and performing with Raphael Saadiq ,Citizen Cope, Joi & Alice Smith. At press time , I've been working on my own music....Preston's WorldWide Funky Barbershop, album titled "Destination" , which I chose to share with myspace first.Ive been sitting on it for a while now and it's ready to hatch...stank you very much....It's now available on itunes, emusic, Zune,Amazon on demand,MySpace music,Spotify,Nokia,Napster,Music Media Net,Shockhound,Amie Street,& Thumbplay. You will have to search for it under Preston's WorldWide Funky Barbershop . It won't come up under Preston Crump just yet .Thanks for your support . If you have some kind words , you can leave a review. I got to perform once at the Apollo with a new George Clinton project called 'Children of Production'. I played bass on a song and I got to sing and pretend to be George or a clone if you will.It was the Bomb and I really hope we get to do it again soon. That's all there is to it for now.Check out my production page in my top 8 (Presstone productions ) and you can hear some tracks that are for sale and some examples of my production.I also like to post up good music links and interesting people in my top 40 so check them out when you stop by here.Ok...back to the grind....water .. .. ....Oh !! and for those of you who have me or Presstone Productions in their top *8....it's greatly appreciated...." a Tribe called Quest represent represent ! Right now the band only consists of me. I produced and wrote on these cuts( along with others who I'll mention , keep reading )...and as far as the recording process , I played bass, guitar, keys, did the drum programming, and sang a lil bit ( along with the funky vocal arrangements ). I had a lot of great guests and contributers and motivating innovators .Singer songwriter Slick co-wrote and contributed his vocal talents and kept up the moral by bringing that ENERGY when you need it. Keisha Jackson, added her soulful vocals and commenced to blow me off my own track !.....Sonji Mickey also added her great vocal talents as well.Big Reese from PA came with his smashing production skills....and so did Ray Murray of Organized Noize. Can't forget Jazz and Krystia from ATL on vocals.David Whild on guitar ,and there will probably be more to come before its done.
