This is a short film by Matthew Schuchman meant as our promotional EPK for 'Now Or Never' (Jan. 2005):
PRETTY POLLY is a 3-piece band consisting of Rob G./guitars - vocals & Stevie D./drums - vocals/screams. (The bass player slot is usually open.) The band was originally formed back in 94 by Rob G. and Stevie D. The duo released a number of demo tapes before releasing their first proper EP 'Getting Over It' in late 1998. After a short hiatus, the band reformed in 2002 with bassist John Walsh & released a full length CD titled 'Somewhere Between Then & Now' followed by 3 EP's; 'That Was Then & This Is Now', 'LIVE EP' & the critically acclaimed 'NOW OR NEVER'. The band is currently recording a new full length release, tentatively titled 'FAREWELL TO THE PROMISED ONES'.
In the band's initial run, they have played New York City (CBGB's, Brownies, The Pyramid, Webster Hall, Under Acme, The Spiral), Long Island (Union Square Lounge, Ultra Sound Lounge/Metasin, The Downtown, Saints N' Sinners, Dr.Shays, Crawdaddy's, The Diamondback, Micky Finns, Industries, Hofstra campus), and out of state gigs in Pennsylvania (Seas-Seas) & New Jersey (two guest slots on the Pat Duncan radio show).
Pretty Polly has opened for such bands as Far, Two Man Advantage, Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Vaeda, The Start, SEER, A Day For Honey, The Confidentials, The Pistol Wips, Day In The Life, Scarab, Dogma, Bellvue, Reach, Dragpipe, The Reunion Show & many, many more.
Robg. is also the co-creator of ICONS OF FRIGHT.COM and has played in: 'The Great Below', 'Nova Rae' & filled in for 'The Pistol Wips'. He composes music for movie trailers as well: myspace.com/robgscore.
Stevie D. also plays in: 'PLAYING DEAD' and has played in 'Bricks For Shoulders', 'Prescott C.', 'Taking Back Sunday', 'Heart Machine', 'Losing Friday', 'Self-Infliction', 'Deception' & has filled in for 'The Pistol Wips' and 'Nova Rae'.
"Frontman Rob G. is again reminding us that great music truly does exist on Long Island- Timothy Connolly - Aural Fix Vol 5 Issue 4 April 2005
"This is a band brimming with pure and unadulterated emotion. A creature that is fed by both negative and positive energy that produces strangely addictive, intensely passionate musical compositions. Songs full of harmony, vigorous energy, and intelligent lyrics. I defy you to hear this album and not be moved." - Jeremy Eckhart - Grave Concerns March 2005 edition
"Pretty Polly presents a solid, inter-locking network of chords and lyrics. On this 6-song CD, they leave you thirsty for more. Pretty Polly has break-out potential and far-reaching seismic music." - Rikki Lana - Good Times Magazine Aug. 2004 edition
"Pretty Polly has been pounding the pavement on the New York scene for years and they never fail to deliver a rousing performance, a good time, and stellar music." - Notes on Tourer 495 from The Inside Connection Oct. 2003 edition
"Part of the beauty of the musical genre known as emocore - which, quite frankly, may be the Next Big Thing - is its intricate musical stylings that blend punk rock with crunching guitars and blistering lyrics and vocals, all while keeping a definitive anti-corporate sensibility and a left-of-center socio-political stance. Enter, then, Long Island natives Pretty Polly. In what can only be described as 12 uppercuts, the boys could teach the rock world a thing or two about integrity." - Bernadette Giacomazzo - The Islandear Issue 579
"The clever structure of each song is a true testament to their potential. From top to bottom, this album has one standout track after another, and the mood swings of the music are enough to leave you in a daze." - Timothy Connolly for the Long Island Music Scene.com web publication
"Pretty Polly provide a handful of tight, well-produced anthems of suburban aggression and existential ennui. Great listening for a little non-Satanic head-banging." - The Islandear
"Loaded with infectious chords, energetic rhythms and melodic yet at time "angered" vocals, this CD would up convincing me that these chaps are on the road to success. There's plenty of originality lurking throughout this unit." - Alex St. Dred from Under The Volcano
