HISTORY

In the summer of 2001, local Boise actor Stitch Marker asked Seth Asa for help in purchasing a 4-track recording unit. After finding the necessary device and accessories, the two hooked up a basic effects processor, put on headphones and sunglasses, and began improvising. That first session would have been the last if both men had not been completely insane.

Nine months later Stitch and Seth listened to "1" (as it is now called) and decided to make another, to be called "2 Beta". Three months after that came the spiralling weirdness of "3 Of Sundays Lost". To cleanse their palettes after 3 they came back with a vengence and some electric devices on "4 Strange Defeatures". By then, they were hooked.

As of today there are 45 full-length Pretty Youth ’albums’, most completely improvised. As the years have gone by and new recordings made, Stitch and Seth have invited others to join them in their madness, have upgraded their technology, and have worked many of their ’improvs’ into organized compositions. Still, the sessions themselves retain the same rules: put on sunglasses, record live in stereo, and let the chips fall where they may.

Pretty Youth has hundreds of ’songs’ and even more instrumentals (operative word, "mental"). They have performed their best work live once and, of course, recorded it. Pretty Youth is an enigma and continues on until one or both men become victims of mathmatics.

"It’s just a song and who gives a damn, anyway?"

- Stitch Marker "Them’s the Breaks"
