PRIDE MC's Interests
|
| Music | Mission Statement:
The Pride is a motorcycle-riding club comprised solely of correctional employees and spouses. It is designed to provide mutual assistance, enjoyment, social benefit and develop camaraderie between correctional personnel, regardless of race, creed, religion, make of motorcycle. However, motorcycle ownership is not required.
| | Books | An officer at the State Correctional Institution at Dallas located in Pennsylvania, was hit by a drunk driver and left with a bruised brain stem. He had expired his sick leave time and had no income to pay rent or bills. In an effort to raise some funds for the officer, some Correctional Employees who rode motorcycles came up with the idea of a benefit run. The run was a huge success.
A few weeks later while sitting around a campfire, Charlie C, Linda W, Paul R and Ed L talked about the run that they had just put on and pondered that there were other Correctional Employees that might be in the same predicament. If one person could benefit from this action then if we organized as a club we could have a reserve on hand and could assist others in their time of need. The wheels were in motion as ideas spilled into the embers of the campfire for hours. When the evening was over a plan of attack was in place. Included was Jack C whose idea it was to form the original run.
Jack took the idea of the "Pride" as our name and created the symbol that is now our back patch. The original set of by-laws was drawn up and from there the idea was brought to public forum where it was met with favorable response. At that venture it was determined that an Executive Board should guide the new club and an interim Board was elected. Ed L as President, Tom M as Vice President, Art C as Treasurer and Rich S as Membership Chairman. Thus completing the circle of the eight (8) Founders. | | Heroes | Address for Dallas Chapter:

About me:
The Pride MC grew from a fundraiser for a Correctional Officer here at SCI-Dallas who had been hit by a drunk driver. He was badly hurt, out of time and money. One man thought if ten riders could get together and throw in $10 each they could raise $100 for the CO in need. They shared the idea with a few riders at work and were directed to Jack Callahan. Jack and others took the ball and ran with it.
When we showed up for the ride we were shocked to see over 120 bikes and a T-shirt sale. After the event eight DOC employees decided to start a club to benefit the DOC employees, and the Pride MC was born. What started out as local club has grown into a National Club with chapters in New York , Maryland, Ohio, Delaware and several chapters in Pennsylvania.
Here is the way we help DOC Employees. There are two support systems, the first being the chapter level and the second being the National Board. The Chapters raise money to support members and a portion of all funds goes to the National Board. The National Board answers the needs of non-members. The Chapter is excused from being partisan, or showing favor to staff that may be more popular than others.
All annual dues ($20) or new membership ($30) goes to the National Board. All proceeds from the annual “Jail Break” go to the National Board. These funds plus a percentage of all chapter fund raisers all go to help non-members. To help a non-member all one needs to do is to get the information of the employee to a Pride Member. We will then forward it to the National Board.
The Chapter is responsible for helping chapter members and members may be considered for help by the National Board.
If you know an employee who needs help, let us know. As in most organizations we at the Chapter level can do more to help members than non-members. As such we encourage all DOC employees to become Members.
While you as our co-workers have often been approached about fundraisers, we thought it was time for you to see the results of your involvement, membership, purchasing tickets and making donations. The following is a quote from The Pride’s Past National President, Mark Kilmer, at this past Jail Break:
“I’m going to open the vault here, and I’d like to read you some numbers. These are absolutely staggering to me, and I am proud of our position and what we are as a Motorcycle Club, and even more proud of our accomplishments. These numbers are only made possible by you, the membership and backbone of this club.
How’s this:
2001-2002 10 Families $2200
2002-2003 20 Families $6650
2003-2004 14 Families $4350
2004-2005 16 Families $7600
2005-2006 8 Families $3600
2006-Current 4 Families $2000
Total of 72 Families and $26,400.00
So I guess I'll throw in some more food for thought. We have given away 4 Harley Davison Softails. This year will make it 5. WOW.
We even gave away a 1200 Harley Roadster in a member's only raffle that celebrated our 5 year anniversary
That's about $81 Thousand Dollars worth of Harley iron. Think of the smiles and excitement we generated. There are many another things that I could highlight here, but I'll just get to the point.
Put these numbers together and you get about $107 Thousand dollars that we have raised and given away to benefit corrections employees in need...
Recently we met with the widow of a Correctional Officer who was killed in Iraq to present her with your donations. She said that she could look for someone to blame, sit home and feel sorry for herself, or she could make a difference.
How about you? Isn’t it time to join and help make a difference?
One third of our members do not ride motorcycles. What we do have in common is
the "Biker Mentality" a desire to help each other
in a time of need.
Here is another great quote form a long time member:
The "Brotherhood of the Pride" some of my best friends have resulted from this club.
These are the people I know will be there when
no one else is available.
My "family" at the PRIDE M/C.
Recently we met with the widow of a Correctional Officer who was killed in Iraq to present her with your donations. She said that she could look for someone to blame, sit home and feel sorry for herself, or she could make a difference.

Who I'd like to meet:
The Back Patch:
THE LION SYMBOLIZES THE " KING OF THE JUNGLE" AND JAILS CAN BE SEEN AS SOCIETIES JUNGLES.
THE MOTORCYCLE IS STREET LEGAL AND NON-DISTINCTIVE AS NOT TO REPRESENT ANY SINGLE BRAND OF MOTORCYCLE.
THE COLOR OF THE BIKE IS RED FOR THE BLOOD SHED IN OUR PROFESSION.
THE LION METAMORPHOSING FROM THE MOTORCYCLE IS THE ABILITY TO SEPARATE OUR WORK FROM THE FUN OF THE ROAD.
"THE PRIDE" REPRESENTS THE MANY FACETS OF THE WORD- AND LEFT FOR THE INDIVIDUAL WHO WEARS THE PATCHES INTERPRETATION...
