LONDON BASED PARTY/EVENTS DJ
DJ BIOGRAPHY...
Prince Nelly is a unique talent from the East London school of DJs. His uplifting and nostalgic blend of club music from all eras makes him the perfect party player. 80s pop, 70s New York disco and 90s classic house - along with contemporary pop, dance and RnB make up his polished musical palette.
With a particular bias towards the 80s, Prince Nelly progressed from presenting his own shows on Hospital Radio to becoming resident of the Trash Room of Popstarz in 2001. Here he honed his skills in playing unpretentious pop, which led to other gigs in and around London, such as Wig Out and Radio Egypt.
Off the back of this success, Prince Nelly launched his own night: Retro Chart Rundown - a radio chart show hosted in a pub: Shoreditch’s George & Dragon. Press leapt on the concept with articles appearing in such diverse titles as i-D, Time Out, The Guardian, Jockey Slut, Metro and the Sunday Times. The show ran for four years up until the end of 2007 and returns to the George & Dragon for party season each December. Retro Chart Rundown has also appeared on real radio with shows on Diesel:U:Music 87.7FM and an appearance on Sean Rowley's Guilty Pleasures show on BBC Radio London 94.9FM in June 2008.
Aside from Retro Chart Rundown, Prince Nelly created the occasional old skool house party, House Arrest, with residencies held at Soho's Enclave and Mother Bar in Shoreditch. Previous to this, a personal tribute to his love of the 70s disco scene, A Night In New York, took place at The Green in Islington.
Prince Nelly co-promoted WORD, a bi-weekly Saturday electronic dance party at Bar Music Hall during 2008/9, playing alongside Rokk, Jamie D Winter and special guests.
Along with Baby Clyde, Prince Nelly celebrates the Now That's What I Call Music series with 25th anniversary parties taking place at the George & Dragon for each volume. The next of these will be the Now Dance 25th anniversary party in May 2010.
A more recent venture is That's The Joint, taking place every Thursday at All Star Lanes Brick Lane since April 2009. A soundtrack of 80's groove, electro, hip hop, freestyle and disco accompanies 80's hip hop movies projecting onto the big screen for the ultimate block party bowling experience.
The newest addition to Prince Nelly's self promoted parties is The Su Pollard Connection's Sunday Crumpet. Along with fellow party players, Farah DJ and Wooski, this shindig takes place monthly at King's Cross Social Club. Expect to hear Gay Disco in all it's forms: New York Disco, Euro Disco, Eurobeat, Hi-NRG and Boystown.
