About me: Our flagship program is with Madagascar's Firaisankina Silk Weavers Cooperative, an association of over 100 women from 3 generations dedicated to preserving and promoting the Malagasy weaving tradition. Firaisankin's shawls, called lambas, are hand-woven and colored by all natural dyes.
These shawls are unique because the wild Borocera silk, from which the lambas are made, is found nowhere else in the world.
Prism's exhibitions are also one of the few places outside
of Madagascar to purchase Malagasy lambas. This opportunity is made all the more special because all profits from lamba sales go directly to assisting Prism's program with Firaisankina: purchasing improved weaving equipment, expanding a forestry conservation project in the region, and starting a university scholarship for the weavers' sons and daughters.
Email jgordon@prism-media.org for more information.
