Its difficult to speak of The Pristines without pointing out that these ladies are sisters (John is the recent adopted brother). Many would think that the sisterly relationship influences the style of music produced by the two, however, their jokingly love/hate relationship lets them enjoy the music as much as the audience. The sound synchs up, representing the differences between Daisy (Vocals/Guitar), John (Guitar/Back-up Vocals) and Jamie (Drums, Back-up Vocals) in personality. The distorted late 60's garage sound defies what we deem to be pristine or lady like. Its almost as if the guitar was meant to be edgy and dirty while being played by the girl next door.
Simplicity at its finest tends to be what reels the audience in while they bob their heads and tap their feet to the music. "I like boys and I like girls, I like dykes and homosexuals", the bubblegum lyrics of "Gay People Are Cool" , off the bands demo, are meant to play with peoples conceptions of young same-sex interests. While songs like "Over" deal with the innocence and hurt of young love.
Their performances are nostalgic of the missed early 90's, Washington based, punk sounds of bands such as Bikini Kill and Bratmobile. These 2 ladies and 1 dude are far from perfect, spoiled, and clean cut; they're a much needed fresh air of contradiction.
