The Prizefighters are a band on a mission: bring the rough and tough sounds of 1960s Jamaica to Minnesota dance floors. Born from a collective passion for traditional ska, rocksteady, early reggae and soul music, The Prizefighters’ sound is crafted by a deliberate determination to give new life to these boss sounds and hand-deliver this sweet music to new ears in the Twin Cities and across the globe.
Although the genre is unique to Minnesota music, the band has avoided being pigeonholed to any specific music scene. Sharing the stage with such diverse acts as punk rock, hip hop, indie rock, and funk, The Prizefighters always manage to get the crowd dancing to a beat that is universal. Playing soul-infused reggae and ska, the way it was heard coming out of Kingston dancehalls in the 1960s, The Prizefighters are Minnesota’s true Reggae Champions!
