~ From Elizabeth Edwards ~

The decision about whether to become a parent is one of the most important life decisions that a woman can face. Edwards believes that she should make it with her family, her doctor, and in the context of her religious and ethical values. As president, he will protect and defend the right to choose and reverse the damage that has been done by President Bush's anti-choice agenda. The ban on procedures recently upheld by the Supreme Court without an adequate exception to protect a woman's health is a stark reminder of why Democrats cannot afford to lose the 2008 election. Edwards supports a federal freedom of choice act codifying Roe v. Wade into federal law so that the right to choose is protected, no matter what the Supreme Court does, and supports access to family planning services.

~ John's Pro-Choice Record ~

* Gov't should not decide for women on partial-birth abortion. (04/2007)
* Ad: compassion, truth, and hope over fear-mongering. (07/2004)
* Right to abortion is constitutionally protected. (01/2004)
* Voted NO on criminal penalty for harming unborn fetus during other crime. (03/2004)
* Voted NO on maintaining ban on Military Base Abortions. (06/2000)
* Voted NO on banning partial birth abortions. (10/1999)
* Rated 100% by NARAL, indicating a pro-choice voting record. (12/2003)
* Expand embryonic stem cell research. (06/2004)

~ In John's Own Words ~

APRIL 26, 2007 --"This decision by the Supreme Court is a perfect example of what's at stake in this election. The kind of people that will be appointed to the US Supreme Court by the next president will control whether a woman's freedom, freedom to choose, make her own health care decisions will be made by her or will be made by the government or by some men sitting on the US Supreme Court. Now, on the issue of abortion, I believe in a woman's right to choose, but I think this is an extraordinarily difficult issue for America. I think it is very important for the president of the United States to recognize--while I believe the government should not make these health-care decisions for women--I believe they should have the freedom to make them themselves--this is a very difficult issue for many people. And I think we have to show respect for people who have different views about this." (Source: South Carolina 2007 Democratic primary debate, on MSNBC Apr 26, 2007 - in regards to the decision on partial-birth abortion and most of the public agreeing with the court's holding)

APRIL 18, 2007 --"I could not disagree more strongly with today's Supreme Court decision. The ban upheld by the Court is an ill-considered and sweeping prohibition that does not even take account for serious threats to the health of individual women. This hard right turn is a stark reminder of why Democrats cannot afford to lose the 2008 election. Too much is at stake - starting with, as the Court made all too clear today, a woman's right to choose" (statement in regards to a 5-4 Supreme Court ruling upholding the federal abortion ban).

MARCH 5, 2007 --"The rights of women are a civil right in America, including a woman's right to choose."

JANUARY 8, 2004 --"I support a woman's right to choose and believe this that right is constitutionally protected. I also support funding for family planning."

Date Unknown --"A woman's decision about whether to become a parent is one of the most important life decisions that she can face. She should be able to make it with her family, her doctor, and consistent with her religious and moral values. Government and politicians should not make it for her. This freedom is central to the full equality and dignity of women."

Date Unknown --"I have always supported a woman's constitutional right to privacy and reproductive choices. As a senator, I earned a 100 percent voting record from NARAL. As president, I will protect and defend the right to reproductive choices and reverse the damage that's been done by President Bush and this Supreme Court. That includes nominating judges who have demonstrated their commitment to Americans' full range of constitutional protections."

Date Unknown --"I support public funding for abortion services for low-income women and others who depend on government for their healthcare. We must also take steps to reduce unwanted pregnancies, including age-appropriate, comprehensive education, access to birth control and emergency contraception."

Date Unknown --"I oppose legislation that undermines reproductive freedom, including gag rules, and bans ..ion procedures that do not include an adequate exception to protect a woman's health."

~ Letter to President Bush ~

JUNE 4, 2004 --"Dear Mr. President:

We write to urge you to expand the current federal policy concerning embryonic stem cell research.

Embryonic stem cells have the potential to be used to treat and better understand deadly and disabling diseases and conditions that affect more than 100 million Americans, such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and many others.

We appreciate your words of support for the enormous potential of this research, and we know that you intended your policy to help promote this research to its fullest. As you know, the Administration's policy limits federal funding only to embryonic stem cells that were derived by August 9, 2001.

However, scientists have told us that since the policy went into effect more than two years ago, we have learned that the embryonic stem cell lines eligible for federal funding will not be suitable to effectively promote this research. We therefore feel it is essential to relax the restrictions in the current policy for this research to be fully explored.

Among the difficult challenges with the current policy are the following:

* While it originally appeared that 78 embryonic stem cell lines would be available for research, only 19 are available to researchers.
* All available stem cell lines are contaminated with mouse feeder cells, making their therapeutic use for humans uncertain.
* It is increasingly difficult to attract new scientists to this area of research because of concerns that funding restrictions will keep this research from being successful.
* Despite the fact that U.S. scientists were the first to derive human embryonic stem cells, leadership in this area of research is shifting to other countries.

We would very much like to work with you to modify the current embryonic stem cell policy so that it provides this area of research the greatest opportunity to lead to the treatments and cures for which we are all hoping." (This was a letter signed by John with 58 other senators)

Fellow Democrats:

The gas tax reveals something that
EVERY media organization, and all of the major print producers are inextricably linked to the interests of the gas and oil industry, as well as the Wall Street financial firms and other large corporations that are interlinked.

The subject of gas and oil is very dangerous.

I doubt McCain comprehends fully what is going on, but Clinton most assureduly does. Those two are in full pander to the easy fix that is at best, a distraction from the real issues.

The gas and oil industry have shown themselves to be keenly interested in distraction.

I think when Clinton joined McCain, a very odd move, she unintentionallly allowed Obama to take charge.

Does Obama or his campaign really understand fully what they have
tied into?

Our economy is right on the edge of going into the ditch. One of the key problems is that, since WWII, there has been really no thinking about alternatives to a dependence on the whole matrix of consumer growth, media, and all of the military spending the government does.
The glue holding all of that together has been cheap oil. The elephant in the room here is that the media will do anything to avoid bringing into discussion the problems that we are currently facing. The only thing that all these people know how to do is to keep on doing the same thing since the end of WWII.

They are probably very afraid of opening up the curtain to look at
the backstage realities that might scare the bejeesus out of anyone who gets a peek.

I think a lot of people appreciate Obama resisting the easy pander.

I think the media is afraid he will tell the truth, and the last thing they want is a President who actually will go on TV and tell the public what is really going on. So, that's my theory about why he is getting over-reactions to his sensible response to the 'superficiality' of the gas tax rebate idea. It certainly isn't logical on the surface.

I turned 25 last month, and in less than 25 hours people will be heading to the voting boothes to vote in two of the last states in the Democratic Primary.

http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/main/Dade

I'm here humbly, once again asking you my friend to have, hope, believe and fight for America. To Put Our Country, Society and Economy On Track. Restore Our Image Around The World and Take America into The 21st Century with Real Responsible Leadership.

So I Chipped In $25 More Today To Show Whoever Is Watching Our Counting. I'm Ready For A Fight. I might not have the money, but there is someone out there with less, someone out there who cannot vote, someone out there who needs our help. Someone somewhere who Needs Us To Change By Believing and Fighting For What Is Best About Our Great Country!

Maybe its right off our coast, maybe its far far away, maybe its right next door or a good friend. Democracy is an experiment built upon participation. Many have fought and died for that right. Join Me.

It's now been 5 years of lies and atrocities in Iraq. If we wait for the next president, many more soldiers and civilians will be needlessly killed or maimed in the meantime. Please protest to end the occupation NOW, and ask others to do likewise. If someone you know is still undecided, please ask them to watch veterans testify in the WINTER SOLDIER hearings, MARCH 13-16. Go to ivaw dot org to learn more about the hearings. It's not too late -- we can still learn peace. Love, Eric

It's good to know that others haven't given up. At the very least, I would love to see Edwards as a VP. Obama-Edwards (my personal choice) or even Clinton-Edwards would be swell tickets. If Edwards keeps getting votes, maybe this can happen.

. . . so the good news about living in Florida is that I got to vote early for Edwards before he "dropped" . . . the bad news about living in Florida is that the state reeks anti-choice. There's even a FL specialty license plate for "Choose Life". FL rated a D on your bulletin survey which was a shock to me. With the general attitude here against women's right to choose, I personally give it a flat-out F.
