PRODICAL SON PLAYS
How I made my profile: I used Dave & Jay's amazing myspace profile editor.
Prodical Son was born in 1999 in Hope Mills, NC , just outside of Fayetteville. The name Prodical Son was taken from the parable in the bible The Prodigal Son. The story is found in Luke 15:11-32. Jesus tells the story of a man who has two sons. The younger demands his share of his inheritance while his father is still living, and goes off to a distant country where he "wastes his substance with riotous living", and eventually has to take work as a swine herder. There he comes to his senses, and decides to return home and throw himself on his father's mercy, thinking that even if his father does disown him, that being one of his servants is still far better than feeding pigs. But when he returns home, his father greets him with open arms, and hardly gives him a chance to express his repentance; he kills a fatted calf to celebrate his return. The older brother becomes jealous at the favored treatment of his faithless brother and upset at the lack of reward for his own faithfulness...But the father responds:
"Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found."
The 5 member band was making a name for itself on the local scene until 2 members decided to leave the band. Brent Tatum, Tony Burgess and Jorge Castro stayed with the band while recruiting Chad Blanton from Liquid Skin and Rusty Williamson from Soterios. The 5 quickly unified and created a sound of their own with heavy riffs, melodic hooks, energetic stages shows and an originality not seen in the area. Farewell Tragedy was soon recorded and Prodical Son quickly became a local favorite. Soon the band would lose member by member while changing the band name to Forever July(a track on the Farewell Tragedy cd). While still remaing as one of the local favorites and even playing a spot on The Vans Warped tour, the band crumbled. With members playing in different successful bands such as Pinebox Destiny, Rockstar for a Day and Greasepaint there was still a sense that it would one day happen again. In late 2007 with Pinebox Destiny and Rockstar for a day both recently splitting up. Brent and Chad decided to reform the band with Troy Townsend and Stephen Joyner. They quickly wrote The Legacy, a song write in memory of Chads father that had passed from ALS ( Lou Gehrigs disease) and Brents grandfather and uncle 2 weeks apart. Stephen and Troy eventually leaving opened the door for 3 old members to return. Rusty Williamson who played bass originally in the band would return on guitar. Will Driver, the replacement for Burgess in 2002 would come back on drums and Jonathan Bernard would return on bass for Troy Townsend.
Now with a lineup set Prodical Son looks to continue writing original music that sounds like no one else and their high energy shows. After a great opening show with He is Legend, a band they previously played with several times in earlier yrs, they are a lock to help reform a unity in the local scene and bring Fayetteville back to the forfront in NC music. How ironic the name and parable mirror the story of this band!!!!!

Music Scene Party Wednesday July 8th @ The Rock Shop
Of course everyone is invited but if you are in a local band you should really send at least 1 person out there. You can't very well expect the bars to support your band if you don't support the bars.
MessageThe Rock Shop and let them know roughly how many people to expect so that they can provide enough FREE food for everyone, and there will be bands there playing for free as well and anything you want to drink for $3.
This is an excellent opportunity for bands, recording studios, graphic artists and anyone else involved in the music scene to meet each other and network together. So come out and have a good time and get to know some of the people who make Fayetteville's Music Scene.
