Professor, I was pondering your situation today and think I have a solution to your micro nation. Every country needs a valuable export. I think yours could be superhero resources; be that gadgets or actual heroes. As you plan your new nation, consider offering haven to RLSH types, who could be trained and hired as a sort of non-lethal (that would be the key) private army for various missions for other nations. Another variation of this is creating a non-prof and mobilizing your heroes using those funds for distaster help, etc. Kind of like a Red Cross friendly strike force. Also begin immediately licensing or selling your amazing gadgets. One is bound to take off and provide the funding you need to get going. Although mad scientists are not always experts in business, if your gadgets are truly unique, getting licensing agreements from existing companies should not be a problem.
