What is Progressia ?
Progressia is a non-profit organization which, for the last 12 years, has been dedicated to the publishing of information related to « progressive » music. Once a paper magazine between 1997 and 2002, Progressia has become a website since then : www.progressia.net. Our site hosts French-speaking readers from all around the world, with an average 80,000 visits per month. Moreover, our forum (www.progressia.net/forum) registers more than 3,500 members, a true fellowship of passionate people.
Our goal is simple (but ambitious!) : share our love for these musics with the widest possible audience. In this respect, we propose :

What is progressive music ?
The word « progressive » was linked to rock for the first time at the beginning of the 70s, with the birth of bands such as Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Pink Floyd . This prog rock scene reflected, and still reflects in the view of many, a will to transcend traditional rock boundaries, in order to create deeper and more diverse feelings, by using complex and/or innovative means : broader melodic space and sonic spectrum, use of complex rhythms, freedom of vocal ..departing from the chorus/verse scheme), generating atmospheres and progression of the musical canvas.
These techniques are usually illustrated by very long, complex songs. Pushed to its extreme, this virtuosity has sometimes been seen as an end rather than a means to an end, contributing to the cliché according to which prog rock is elitist and apart from all the other categories of music. However, its cross-over with metal in the 90s and, more recently, with indie rock demonstrates that a broader audience is now willing to discover what prog has to offer.
In this contemporary context of the 00s, defining progressive music is an impossible task, as it would necessarily imply restrictions to a limitless artistic trend. The word Progressive relates to an open-minded and curious state of mind, disregarding predefined formats.
