Through its grants and instrument donations, Project Ahimsa provides music education to children in poor and under-served areas around the world, particularly those areas affected by violence. Project Ahimsa's goal is to promote non-violence, cultural exchange and the healing power of music so that the lives of at-risk and impoverished children may be improved. The word "ahimsa" means "non-violence" in Sanskrit. .. Since its inception in 2001, Project Ahimsa has reached nearly 10,000 children around the globe through its music education grants and musical instrument donations. .. The vision of Project Ahimsa is to generate unity from the means to the ends. .. Funding to develop the means comes from multiple concerts and events that Project Ahimsa hosts each year around the United States. These events feature artists from a variety of backgrounds performing for diverse audiences of South Asians and non-South Asians alike. Artists such as the Black Eyed Peas, The Doors, Nitin Sawhney, MC Rai, JBoogie's Dubtronic Science, DJ Cheb i Sabbah, Karsh Kale, Bobby Friction, blacKMahal and MIDIval Punditz have all performed at Project Ahimsa events. These events are built upon a healthy collaboration between local, nationally- and internationally-recognized performers, large and small corporate sponsors, promoters and volunteers. .. The ends, or the concert and event revenues and donations, are then applied toward youth music education programs around the world. In the United States, Project Ahimsa supports children's music programs in the California, Colorado and Florida. In India, Project Ahimsa supports programs in the states of Gujarat and Bengal. .. Project Ahimsa is a registered 501(c)(3) organization under the fiscal sponsorship of the Drs. Kiran and Pallavi Patel Foundation for Global Understanding. .. VIDEO:

"Tablas & Turntables" is a pioneering workshop exploring traditions of North Indian music combined with turntablism. Initiated by Project Ahimsa in 2003, about 200 at-risk high school students have benefited from this week-long immersive educational experience.

The program is taught at Eagle Rock High School, a residential school in Estes Park, Colorado, for youth ages 15-17. The students are those who may have dropped out or been expelled from traditional high schools but are determined to make changes in their lives.
