Project HIP-HOP is a youth-led organization. Through the study of hip hop culture and the history of social movements we engage young people in a process of critically analyzing the past and present so they can take action to make a better future.
Far too often low-income youth of color fall into the worst societal statistics. You turn on the news and they are most often presented in a bad light. Worse yet, many youth have little vision for their lives being any better than the negative stereotypes they see, and they get caught in a downward cycle of mediocrity.
Project HIP-HOP is dedicated to creating a space where young people can walk in the door and know that they are seen as a community-asset and not as "problem children." We want youth to have the kinds of experiences that allow them to have a vision for themselves and their communities. We also want them to have the skills to plan and execute their visions individually and collectively.
