    Sam began Projekt in 1983 with a cassette compilation of South Florida electronic artists. After a number of cassette-only electronic releases, in 1986 Projekt released the first black tape for a blue girl on vinyl. In 1989, the first black tape cd. In 1992 the label became a full-time occupation / obsession for Sam, with many new signings and a growing presence in the American darkwave scene. We were at it before Cleopatra or Metropolis even started! = ). In the mid-90s, Projekt employed 11 people, based in Chicago. Now we're down to a comfortable staff of 3.5 in Brooklyn, NY.

Hello. This is Sam. I started Projekt way back in 1983! I spend my days designing album covers, interacting with Projekt's great artists, and running the Projekt.com webstore. I am also busy with black tape for a blue girl and hanging out with my son. Therefore, I am not regularly checking this myspace page. For many of you, a little ad like the one above (placed in the classified section in the back of ..Spin.. and ..Sassy.. in the '90s) was your first exposure to the world of Projekt. While the snail mail address is no longer valid, the image brings back a memory or two....



Projekt has over 220 releases! Projekt held eight Projektfests (1996, 1997. 4 in 1998 + 2002 and 2007 in New Haven, CT, as part of Blacksun Fest 3). If you have photos of any of the festivals, we'd love to have copies....
