Moved by the environment of a great metropolis like São Paulo, with a cultural multiplicity and an urban chaos that reveal a fascinating city, Projeto B creates a new musical language, mixing avant-garde jazz, brazilian and contemporary classical music.
Since 1999 it has been making concerts in different night clubs and concert houses all around São Paulo, some other cities along the state and Rio de Janeiro.
In 2004, Projeto B released their first CD, entitled "Andarilho" (literally "walker"). A sonorous reflection of São Paulo is represented by its musics, like: “B. do Limão”, “Da Augusta ao Centro”, “Choro nº 1”, “Paulista” e “Andarilho”.
A couple of years after releasing their first CD, Projeto B are back in the studio to record “A Noite” (“The Night”). Produced by Yvo Ursini, the album describes, by the means of sonic sensations, mood and texture variations, the night in a megalopolis like São Paulo. With a repertoire developed over experimentations carried through the last two years, this follow-up work presents a trilogy on the city of São Paulo, comprised by the tunes “Gen. Olimpio da Silveira”, “Fazendo Amor no Arouche” and “Suíte Paulistana”, all written by Yvo. It also brings two compositions (in fact, two “sound portraits”) by Leonardo Muniz Corrêa, “Do Nascer ao Pôr da Lua” and “Epífise”, as well as an arrangement of one of the most meaningful classical pieces of the last century, the fourth movement (“Rondes Printanières”) of “Le Sacre du Printemps”, by Igor Stravinsky. Not only Stravinsky, but mainly him, among other contemporary classical composers, have a huge influence over Projeto B’s compositions. This may explain the choice for this track in special, as the accomplishment of a performance study and adaptation that took about a whole year of work to the band. Finally, “Maravilhoso Carro”, a composition by Yvo and Leonardo, deals with experimentations on metrics, silence and improvisation.
Projeto B’s story started in 1999, and went on with collaboration of many instrumentalists. In 2006, already with the current line-up, Projeto B developed part of the new repertoire in concert, which granted all the necessary interplay between musicians for the new project. As a natural consequence of this whole process, all recordings on this album were registered live in studio, in December 2006, over three sessions at the Zabumba studio. The mixing was held at the Timbre studio, in January 2007.
Free improvisation and instrumentalists’ freedom of interpretation were always fundamental in Projeto B’s proposal. The “live in studio” recordings contributed to the birth of new ideas and elements in every composition, and brought a lot of improvements to the final result - as we all can listen here.

Caramba!!
