CDs and MP3s from singers, bands and hopping lederhosen.
Music
Classic honky tonk, mambo, early Elvis, surf, old punk, mariachi, jazz, lounge and the Replacements. I don't like tribute bands. They're lazy, thieving and bad for rock'n'roll. Boycott 'em.

Radio Free Bakersfield: 60 minutes of twang, crunch, and oomph

“Howdy friends. This here’s Jorge, and you’re listening to Radio Free Bakersfield. We got unsigned bands and indie bands, insigned bands and undie bands.”
So begins nearly every weekly podcast of Radio Free Bakersfield, hosted by Jorge of the Spahn Ranch Boys from Seal Beach. Radio Free Bakersfield is “sixty minutes of twang, crunch, and oomph.” What does that mean exactly? Twang is easier to define musically. You can expect a healthy dose of rockabilly (from the States as well as France and Germany) and hillbilly with local bands like Brian Jay and the Last Call Boys. The crunch and oomph is a little harder to pin down, but you can get a good sense of what is meant by that if you listen to the most recent podcast (RFB 105), which featured an entire lineup of Spaghetti Western tunes performed largely in an instrumental surf style. More generally though, the crunch and oomph of the show can be heard in cowpunk, surf, and garage styles.
"The podcast started out as an alt-country genre show (hence the name), but it has evolved to pretty much include any freakin' genre I feel like playing--probably due to the fact that many genres are being played by artists all over the world." When asked what makes a song worthy of RFB, Jorge replied, "My only criteria are that the artist must be fairly obscure or unknown outside mainstream music (and I would include pseudo-"underground" media like Spin & Rolling Stone in that category), and I have to dig the song."
Jorge features a lot of bands from LA and San Diego as well as Orange County bands like The Dynotones and The Tone Junkies. Radio Free Bakersfield is one of the most eclectic podcasts I have heard. As Jorge put it, "There's a TON of great music out there, from all over the world." He does a great job of finding it and featuring it on Radio Free Bakersfield.

Radio Free Bakersfield/The Spahn Ranch Dance Party is not affiliated with any pirate radio stations that may or may not have had a similar moniker and never has been.
Who I'd like to meet: I met her already, but I am accepting CDs and MP3s from crooners, combos and troublemakers.
Listen to a show before you submit anything, por favor. I don't respond to blind solicitations just like you don't read junk mail. Thanks!
Subscribing To RFB Via iTunes
As you may already know, iTunes rejected RFB almost a year ago. Why? Well, I'm still not sure WHY; read that old blog & maybe you can tell ME. Anyhoo, I have since found a way to circumvent those f*ckers. Take a looksee...
