Heroes
My children who inspire me every day and are brave enough, always, to walk through their fear.
Rebekah, especially, who never lets fear stop her from taking what she wants and living life to the fullest. She's also the only girl I know equally at home in jeans and a concert t-shirt, black fishnets and boots, and an Audrey Hepburn dress with kitten heels. We have WAY too many inside jokes to even list them here... She's drop-dead gorgeous but also an intellectual, a dreamer, an artist... and someone who quietly works to better the world in which we all live. Let me say this; you could search the world over and never find another girl like her.
Kenneth - As we get closer and closer to the day when you'll leave home to start your own life, I only love and enjoy your company more. You make me laugh even when I think it's impossible. We've grown up together, you and I. I truly can't imagine my life without you. You are the boy of my heart. Always.
The other #1 young people in my life, starting with my two adopted children;
Morgan - I love you like crazy! You have so much to offer, and I can't wait for the rest of the world to realize what I've known all along; you are a beautiful, insightful, loving, loyal person. You always manage to smile and laugh, even when things are tough on the inside, and while I admire your strength, I hope you know our house is one place where no cheerful facades are necessary. We're ALWAYS here for you, for anything at all. The world would be an emptier place without you in it, Sweets.
Anthony - Let's see... You've been around for the good and bad, suffered through hellish car rides in which Andrew and Caroline fought all the way home (and even diffused a few), listened to me mediate battle after battle, helped us clean up before and after parties, attended a swanky literary party, ate frozen yogurt in Hermosa Beach, held Rebekah when she cried over the lost ring in the ocean, gone surfing with Rebekah and Caroline while I watched from the pier, stayed up late reading my ARC, brainstormed ideas for my mythical beast, watched the sun set from the side of the road, sat in the living room while we hashed out things funny and painful and everything in between... The way I see it, all that makes you family, kiddo. Things just wouldn't be the same without you, and I eagerly await all the amazing things I know you'll do and accomplish with Rebekah. Wherever the world takes you both, I'll be here if you ever need me. I know without a doubt that you'll look after our girl. Always remember; she's not as tough as she'd like you to believe. And get ready; we're gonna do so many cool things. I love you like my own...
Jacob - A more loyal friend and confidante would be impossible to find. I'm so grateful you came into Rebekah's life when you did, because you came into mine as well. If you ever need someone on your side, you know where to find me.
My mother who has persevered, largely alone, through this life.
Family is the most important thing to me. If we need to hide, we do it together. And if we need to fight, we do that together, too. Basically, we just stick together. No matter what.
My Young Adult fantasy, Prophecy of the Sisters, will be released by Little Brown Books for Young Readers in August 2009. A Gothic fantasy, Prophecy of the Sisters is the first in a series of three books.

THE BOOK:
“Have you been waiting long?”
I shake my head. “Waiting is made easy in a place like this. A place that reminds me of you while I wait.”
He tips his head, taking a finger and tracing my face from the loose curls at my temple, down the angular jut of my cheekbone, across the curve of my jaw.
“Everything reminds me of you…”
Twin sisters Lia and Alice Milthorpe have just become orphans. They have also become enemies. As they discover their roles in a prophecy that has turned generations of sisters against each other, the girls find themselves entangled in a mystery that involves a tattoo-like mark, their parents’ deaths, a boy, a book, and a lifetime of secrets.
Perhaps because it seems so appropriate, I don’t notice the rain. It falls in sheets, a blanket of silvery thread rushing to the hard almost-winter ground. Still, I stand without moving at the side of the coffin.

All the Latest...
As of January 2009, rights to Prophecy have been sold in seven countries. I'm pretty sure that the Subsidiary Rights department at Little Brown Books for Young Readers is the best in the universe. I <3 you guys!
After much time, effort, and an incredible amount of patience and hard work on the part of my talented editor, Nancy Consecu, and the Little Brown design and marketing team, the cover for the first book in the Prophecy series is official. I can't help agreeing with a friend of mine; it's totally bad ass!
Beginning February 1st, I'll be embarking on a six-city pre-publicity tour. Stops will include LA, SF, Seattle, Chicago, Detroit/Ann Arbor, and NYC for Comic-Con. My schedule's incredibly tight (a city a day!), but if you are in any of these cities and would like to try and meet for a quick coffee or something, shoot me an email! And if you're anywhere near NYC on February 7th, PLEASE come to Comic-Con! I'll be there signing ARCs, and there is a really cool Prophecy-related promotional item that will be handed out as well. Plus, I'd love to say hello! Oh, and Comic-Con just happens to be one of THE funnest conferences around.
A Prophecy teaser site will go live on February 6th. I'll post a bulletin together with the link when it's official. This site will be in place until the official Prophecy site launches in July.

I don't know yet. I won't make a final decision until I hear it a few more times. My first thought was, good, but could've been much better. The recording is a lot of the time really weird and sounds crappy, and when he screams, the way they recorded it I can't understand what he's saying. I def think it's there most mature and complex album yet though.
im glad your having a good weekend. what grades are your kids going into? i hope they have a great first day tomorrow, and that you all have a god week.
