LEROY JACKSON III - Lead Vocals
Leroy, as a child, loved so many different types of music he couldn’t understand why people put it into different categories. To him, music was music. Different styles, yes, but music just the same. His journey to unite that universal sound brought about the forming of Prophet Soul. In this band, he combines funk, soul, jazz, hip-hop, rock and reggae for a universal flow. “I try to put real world lyrics with different styles of music together for a sound that everyone can relate to.” Leroy has had the pleasure of performing on the same stage with RUN-DMC, Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Tongue Twista, and Urban Dance Squad—just to name a few. “I plan to spread the vibe…anywhere I go I want to leave a lasting impression.”
JERRY GOLDSTONE - Lead Guitar
Jerry has been a fixture on the San Francisco club scene for over 20 years, playing in a variety of jazz, funk and contemporary soul groups. A native of San Francisco, he grew up with the Bay Area sound. Jerry built a foundation studying with guitarists Bruce Conte of Tower of Power and Dave Creamer of Miles Davis' group as well as pianist Mark Levine and bassist Frank Tusa. He is an accomplished electric and acoustic guitarist who brings a variety of influences and colors to Prophet Soul's music.
JOSH PERRY - Keyboards
Josh has been playing piano and keyboards for 20 years, working through every style from A Flock of Seagulls to Journey to Oscar Peterson. He studied jazz theory at Rutgers University before striking westward, teaching piano to unsuspecting kids in Austin and writing bitter music reviews for VH1.com. He eventually connected with Leroy and the Prophet Soul project in June 2003. Hoping to spread an "original revival" of nasty synth grooves (P-funk, the Gap Band, early Prince), Josh can also be found DJ'ing around the Bay Area under the name "Schwa," mixing funk, soul, breakbeats, and anything else that keeps booties bumpin'.
ED MEARES - Drums
With 20 years performing and recording experience in various Bay Area bands, Ed enjoys playing diverse music styles ranging from funk and jazz, to rock and reggae, to hiphop and soul. As a multi-instrumentalist, Ed plays the drum kit, afrocuban and middle eastern percussion, and the electric bass. People often ask, "Ed, how many bands are you in now?" Currently the roster includes Prophet Soul, Bro, Groovus and LowFat. For Ed, Prophet Soul continues to be a huge inspiration with its diverse sounds, solid grooves, and positive message.
