About me:

The National Abortion Federation (NAF) is the professional association of abortion providers in the United States and Canada. We believe that women should be trusted to make private medical decisions in consultation with their health care providers. NAF currently offers quality training and services to abortion providers and unbiased information and referral services to women.

Our work can be broken out into these three fundamental aspects of our mission:

Safe - NAF gives our members the education and professional support they need to provide the highest quality abortion care.

Legal - NAF provides the medical and patient perspectives in debates about abortion policies.

Accessible - NAF gives women the resources they need to make informed decisions about their pregnancies.

NAF also runs a Hotline that is available to answer any questions you may have about abortion, unintended pregnancy, or related issues. The hotline is free, completely anonymous, and offers services to everyone, regardless of their individual situation.

Call toll-free 1-800-772-9100
Weekdays: 8:00 A.M.-9:00 P.M. Eastern time
Saturdays: 9:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M.
Sundays: 9:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M.

Learn more about us at our website: www.prochoice.org

Share your Story: NAF is interested in hearing about your experience and why you are pro-choice. Over one-third of women of reproductive age have an abortion by the age of 45. Make your voice heard! Your voice is crucial in the fight to ensure safe, legal, and accessible abortion care to promote health and justice for women. http://www.prochoice.org/pregnant/hotline/share.html

Help us Remember an American Hero, Dr. George Tiller

We continue to mourn the loss of our friend and colleague, Dr. George Tiller. Dr. Tiller was a dedicated physician who provided quality abortion care to women, at great personal sacrifice and risk. He is truly a hero to his fellow abortion providers and his patients. Dr. Tiller’s office is filled with letters from women, thanking him for the excellent, compassionate care he provided. Many of these women say Dr. Tiller saved their lives.

Since his tragic death, we have received messages from some of his patients and from people around the world who are saddened and outraged. We feel it is important to share these words and tributes to our beloved colleague and friend. For the first time, we will enable comments on our blog so that all of you can share your condolences or offer memories of Dr. Tiller. We invite you to join us in honoring a true American hero, Dr. George Tiller.

6/8/09: Wear Yellow to Honor Dr. Tiller and Reproductive Freedom

In light of the assassination of Dr. George Tiller, a reproductive
health doctor and abortion provider in Wichita, Kansas, who was
assassinated on Sunday May 31st in his church, we are asking that
everyone who stands in solidarity with womens' choice everywhere wear
yellow this Monday June 8th.

In her book "Selling Suffrage: Consumer Culture and Votes for Women,"
Margaret Finnegan traces the use of yellow back to 1887, when Kansas
suffragists, campaigning for a suffrage amendment in their state,
adopted the yellow ribbon as their "distinctive sign," borrowing the
color from the state flower, the sunflower. She notes that the color
caught the attention of other workers throughout the country such as
Mary Livermore, and that Massachusetts and Pennsylvania suffragists
quickly created their own version of the sunflower badge. By 1896, the
National American Woman's Suffrage Association (NAWSA), the main
suffrage organization in America, was selling sunflower stationery and
pins. Yellow, notes Finnegan, quickly became an official color.

The color gold, or yellow, has a long history of being important in
the women’s rights movement. The sunflower is the state flower of
Kansas, where Dr. Tiller practiced. We implore you all to stand with
us on Monday June 8th to mourn the loss of Dr. Tiller, as well as to
mark this day as one where we once again refuse to be intimidated and
afraid.

Please remember to wear yellow this coming Monday June 8th in
commemoration of those lost in the fight for reproductive freedom. We
also ask reproductive health facilities all across the country to
spread the message of solidarity by displaying sunflowers on Monday
June 8th.

-------------------------------------------
Please also consider making a donation to the memorial fund
established in Dr Tiller's honor. The fund will assist women in the
second trimester

Due to having to go a different route into town because I had to see the doc about a sprained foot, I was "treated" to this billboard on the side of this main drag that stated: "2,000,000 Couples Are Waiting. Do Not Abort. Choose Life." I was offended because it basically states how a woman should feel required to go ahead and birth her baby just so she can give it to a twitching infertile couple. Of course, the billboard shows this lily-white baby. Please, it is my body and my life. There is no way in h-ll that I would continue a pregnancy just to give the kid to some whiny idiots who think they cannot be complete without a newly-birthed white infant. There are more than enough kids in this country who need shelter without encouraging women to birth more just to make someone else feel self-actualized. That is the epitome of selfishness.

THANK-YOU, NAF, for adding me! I am so pro-choice it ain't funny to many people. I am a religious Hindu but believe in abortion on demand. I can go on 'n on about this issue and probably use more space than the comments sections allows. From 1998-2000, I was involved with the Orlando NOW until it sort of went defunct. I did clinic security work and was glad to be of service to the patients as well as the employees. I got a scary letter sent to my apartment as the pro-lifers take down license plate #'s and have friends at the tag office to get addresses. I am thankful every single day that I was able to get an abortion in 1994 when the first tubal ligation failed. I have no troube posting this in public. I wish more women would admit their abortions rather than allow society to make them feel ashamed and guilt. I never wanted to be a mother and am darn grateful that I was not forced into having a baby.

Namaste...

I am a young mother of two little boys and they have a great sister who we have custody of. I agree life is presious...my childrens life is presious because I choose to sacrifice everything to have them. If it was forced then it would mean nothing. I could never have an abortion, I know what amazingly cute people my fetus' turn into. But thats not the point, I know that you can not legislate morality and I have no right to force people in a free country to not be able to legally practice whatever they believe. There were prolife booths at our county fair this year (as always in SD) and they passed out these little dolls that were "what your 12 week child looked like" and I couldn't help but laugh in there face and take out the 13 week ultrasound of my son and point out his lack of feet, legs, hands, facial fetures, and the hump on his back. They play this "babys are cute" card way to much. Also there is now legislation in SD that they have to give you an ultra sound and basically call you a baby killer before they can give you an abortion. These manipultive "christians" are trying to make it so that it is emotionally scaring to have an abortion. I wish people could look out of the a$$ there heads are shoved in and see what country they live in and what there are doing to it. I'm done ranting now sorry.
