Providence Slam is one of the oldest and most respected national Poetry Slam venues. Known for bringing quality, consistent work to regional/national poetry events and for a strong community built around it's home venue of AS220, The Providence Slam Team won the National Poetry Slam in 1996, hosted Nationals in 2000, and has advanced passed the qualifying round at The National Poetry Slam 8 times in the passed 11 years.
It's the objective of this venue to maintain and provide a space where individuals, whether they consider themselves artists or not, can come to share and learn from one another. Writiers, singers, musicians, carpenters, doctors, janitors, lawyers, and waitresses; we are not defined by our job titles. Everyone is welcome at the Providence Slam.
Bring flyers for community events and actions. We will post and announce them. Bring your songs, poems, and rants. The stage is open to you.
Bring your ears, anger, smiles, and tears. You will hear some of the consistently highest quality spoken word in the country.
Our venue is AS220. We are blessed to have an art/community action fortress as our home court. They provide for and protect our reading without trying to profit or change us and we are lucky unspeakably lucky to be here. Check them out.

1ST THURSDAY: OPEN MIC, FEATURE, OPEN SLAM
*OPEN MIC LIST GOES UP AT 7:30PM/DOORS OPEN AT 8PM

2ND THURSDAY: POETRY TAG/WRITER'S CIRCLE
*Laid back, low pressure writer's group. A chance to share and talk about poems away from the stage. 6:30PM/UPSTAIRS, 2ND FLOOR AS220 CLASSROOM SPACE
3RD THURSDAY: MUSICIANS OPEN MIC
*Open Mic and Feature: Open to Musicians, Singers, and Writers. Singers and Musicians get 8 minutes (THIS INCLUDES TALKING/INTRO RAMBLING) and Poem presenters get 3 minutes (3 MINUTES SHARP.) Open Mic list goes up at 7:30/Doors at 8pm. EXCEPT ON QUARTERLY B.S.S. RHODE SHOW EVENTS!!
4TH THURSDAY: YOUTH SLAM
*Open Mic, Feature, Youth Slam. Youth Slam is for performers age 13-19 years of age. Open Mic list goes up at 7:30/Doors Open at 8pm.

No Bailouts for Billionaires:
Nationalize America's Banks!
Join us Friday, February 20th, from 3- 5 pm, at Bank of America's downtown headquarters across from Kennedy Plaza.
We will call for real public ownership of the banking system, with democratic elections of bank directors.
Already multi-billions of our taxes have been used to save the private banking system. Employees are facing growing job losses amid an ever worsening fall in our wages. Real change is needed!
Our taxes, our hard earned wages, are being used by Washington to bailout Wall St. We demand:
Nationalization of the banks: Public ownership of the banks!
Democratic control by working people: Make the banks work in the service of everyone!
An end to exorbitant bonuses: Only nationalization will put an end to the fattening of executive compensation!
Action to lower interest rates: Cheap credit for students, workers and small businesses!
Right to a home: Stop the bankers' foreclosures!
Bring signs, banners, noise makers, and at least one friend, co-worker or anyone else feeling the grind from the capitalists' crisis.
