Someone who wondered outside of the box... Innovation!
Aaron Leighton James Iselin, born in Queensland, Australia, in 1986, to an Aboriginal father and an Australian mother. Soon after his birth, his parents separated and Aaron and his older sister were left to be raised by their mother, receiving little in ways of guidance and support from their father. Despite this lack of guidance and support, Aaron did well for himself from an early age and excelled in the entertainment arts which lead to his mother inducting Aaron into acting classes at Woodridge, Brisbane. He also excelled at poetry and sports.
In 2002, whilst aged 16, Aaron’s mother decided to immigrate to the United Kingdom where they finally settled in Oxfordshire, England. The move and change proved to be quite difficult for Aaron; he found it a struggle to settle down due to being separated from his life long friends and close family.
As an outlet to his angst he worked on his poetry which naturally progressed to him performing his poetry over instrumentals. Initially he delivered his work over commercially available instrumentals found on hip-hip/rap releases, and only considered his activities to be nothing more than a hobby and past-time.
Aaron also started participating in rap battle events for which he adopted the stage name ‘Provokal’ by combining the words ‘Provoke’ and ‘All’.
By mid-2003, Provokal was receiving some decent feedback from his peers and people from the entertainment circles for his musical endeavors so he started concentrating on writing to customized beats, in order to make his own songs, rather than just performing his poetry to commercially available instrumentals.
In December 2005, Provokal initiated contact with ImZ of Broken Souls Productions, (Producers – ImZ & Neehi, Artists – Genesis Elijah, Lady Destiny & Dread MC) ImZ found Provokal to be a decent, motivated individual with a warm heart and strong work ethic which he immensely admired so in return ImZ helped by producing customized instrumentals for Provokal and giving constructive feedback where possible.
Since then Provokal has excelled in his art form, which has opened up many doors; Provokal has performed along side many respected artist such as Dj Jazzy Jeff, Lethal Bizzle, Klashnekoff, Skinnyman amongst others. In 2007 Provokal performed on Rodney P & Skitz’ BBC 1Xtra radio show when Rodney P complimented Provokal on his lyrics and delivery by stating "You have heavy, heavy, heavy vernacular!”.
In 2008, Provokal saw his debut on National Radio having his song ‘True Love’ (Produced by ImZ) in which sampled the late Bob Marley’s song ‘Stand Alone’ featuring on Chris Goldfingers BBC Radio 1 show. He was also selected from B Real (Cypress Hill) to fly out to Los Angeles and feature on an upcoming compilation CD entitled ‘The Harvest’ in which he is featured along side Hip-Hop heavyweights B Real (Cypress Hill) & Young De (Tangled Thoughts). This had opened up doors for Provokal as he was offered a deal from Latin Thugs CEO Fred Sherman, Provokal also built a relationship with Young De which lead to a new track due to feature on Provokals forthcoming project.
Mid 2008, saw a promosing duo arising as Sean Rumsey (Soul / R&B Singer) & Provokal decided to unite fusing the 2’s styles, the duo is now known as Sean & Provokal. Provokal then called upon Bizarre of D12 to feature on Sean & Provokals first single ‘Electricity’ (Yet to be released).
Provokal’s style is funny and witty although he can and does tackle the more serious subject matters very well, as heard on his demo CD, and his voice suits the genre very well. His tracks are designed to be performed live either via PA or with a live band. He also aims to make the tracks suitable for crowd participation with catchy hooks and memorable lyrics. He is not afraid to experiment with his sound which has lead him to record some favorable ‘cross-over’ tracks, which have been accepted readily by the audiences he has performed to.
In 2008, Provokal hopes to record more projects and release them to the public via the internet and independent CD releases. He also hopes to perform his work on a regular basis by gigging as much as possible to help increase his fan base.
