Friendly reminder Join us at Radio Arte, 1401 W. 18th Street, on the corner of 18th and Blue Island for this event. Event details.

Proyecto Latina is a collaborative between Teatro Luna, Tianguis bookstore, and Mariposa Atomica Ink. We are excited about showcasing Latina talent and are always seeking outgoing Latina poets and performers for our monthly open mic series. Proyecto Latina takes place the third Monday of every month @ Tianguis, 2003 S. Damen @ 7 p.m. Its an open mic so everything's game: Poetry, spoken word, music, monologues, shorts y en el idioma que prefieras. So dust off your guitar, dig up that poem, practice in front of the bathroom mirror and come out to share with us. And if you're too shy to get on stage come and be one of the lucky spectators.

10-20-06: Proyecto Latina on NPR's 848.

Local Latinas take the Mic
In this excerpt, poets Irasema Gonzalez, Silvia Rivera and Yolanda Cardenas address everything from immigration to gangs and violence. Proyecto Latina showcases the talents of local Latinas at Radio Arte in Pilsen every third Monday of the month.

The National Museum of Mexican Art presents:
A Declaration of Immigration
Opens Friday, 4th of July, 2008
1852 W.
19th Street, Chicago, IL 60608
Visit www. nationalmuseumofmexicanart. org to download the schedule.

A Declaration of Immigration is an exhibition that depicts many of the experiences and viewpoints within U.S. immigrant communities. The works of over 70 artists will help visitors increase their understanding of this complex issue by providing immigrant perspectives that are seldom included in the national debate. As a vital part of the democratic process, artists and community-based institutions play a critical role in any civic dialogue and struggle for social justice. Immigration is indisputably the foundation upon which this country was built. The National Museum of Mexican Art has a responsibility to take a proactive stance, and provide a platform from which many immigrants can speak out - especially at a time in our history, when once again, countless immigrants are being scapegoated and blamed for many of the nation's problems. This exhibition will launch the Museum's three-year commitment to immigrant centered programs.
