Influences
Like all ladies my age the strongest influence had to have been Joni Mitchell. Also Judy Collins and Bob Dylan. Yes, Bob Dylan. He proved that the words, not the voice, are the most important factor in sincere folk music and that we didn't have to sound like Joni or Judy to make music. And recently, Jean Ritchie, folk legend and wonderful person, who said that the words are most important.
Either alone or with family and friends, Prudence Hunt has been playing music in the Greater Cincinnati area for over sixteen years, mixing traditional folk, Celtic and humor into her performances.
Growing up along and on the Ohio River, Prudence has been the fourth generation of her family to work on steamships and towboats. This love for the river and her family is the inspiration of many of her original songs. Her family’s Scottish roots fostered the love of songs that bridged from Scotland and Ireland and evolved into our time treasured American ballads.
She carries family traditions to heart by bringing her grandchildren into her music, having them perform songs they learn and write together as the Homemade Jam Band. When performing in the band The Sweeneys, the songs range from traditional ballads to raucous pub songs that take you from the British Isles across the sea to America and back again! High energy bouzouki, guitars and percussion, get your toes to tapping!
Prudence is also an active member of the Cincinnati folk organization, The Queen City Balladeers and is founder of the Ceilidh Group, a local group of musicians and friends who meet monthly to play music together at each others homes and keep the folk traditions alive.
Hi Prudence!
So nice to meet you on the web.
How cool!I haven't met too many other Prudences.
Great music! It sounds like you are doing some wonderful things!
I have my bio up now - and will put music up once I get the nerve ...
I'm working on getting some folks together here in Reno to play some trad tunes. There is just nothing like those moments. So glad you are sharing that with your family - and sharing your music with all of us.
