you can check out my personal page if you would like the ABC's of some o' the faves -
but - the biggest influence on me was the critical ear my father trained me to have... him being a dj and ultimately deciding what goes on the air - and what goes into the trash... He raised me on a strange diet of Christian Music - and thankfully the British Invasion. I had almost every (American) Beatle album in my own personal collection, paid for with my own money buy the time I was 9.
I was not allowed to listen to the music on the radio - so thankfully I missed hair bands and New Kids... However, now I am stuck wanting to write lush songs that only George Martin could arrange to produce.. I hear the London Symphony doesn't play for PBR.
So I play the guitar - and having taught myself - it has shaped the type of music that I am currently focused on... which is heavily influenced by Jeff Buckley, bjork, Nilsson, Paul Williams, Edith Piaf, Leonard Cohen, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie and Kate Bush... There are many aspects of music I want to follow... trip hop (a' la bjork, beck, tricky and portishead), torch (edith, ella and bette), that great rock bitch goddess sound of chrissy hynde and grace slick... or croon moody like kd lang or sinead or goodness - what I wouldn't do for an album like Elvis Costello andthe Brodsky Quartet's Juliet Letters...
