Music
Classic rock- except what is now "classic" is what I listened to in high school. Queen, AC/DC, almost anyone from the 70s and 80s, I listen to some country but I hate this new pop-sounding garbage that gets called "country" because it has a fiddle and steel guitar in it. Don't tell my kids, but I like some of their bands too- Bowling for Soup, Say Anything..., Panic! At the Disco, Taking Back Sunday, All-American Rejects, Fall Out Boy. I've also been told I like "indie" music, which I had no clue about. Franky Perez is awesome. The Grates are, well, great! John Butler Trio... classical music- usually heavy on stringed instruments, but I love the sound a piano can make by itself. I could go on and on...
Movies
Comedies, good old-fashioned action, horror- mostly classic-style horror- scare me, don't try to gross me out! I love Rob Zombie, Quentin Tarantino, and Tim Burton's work. Fave actors include: Vincent D'Onofrio, Bill Murray, Jean Reno, Kathy Bates, Jeff Goldblum, Drew Barrymore, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Simon Pegg, Steve Martin, Scarlett Johansson, Claire Danes, Ryan Reynolds, Steve Carell, Juliette Binoche, Bruce Campbell, Toni Collette, Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Kiefer Sutherland, Uma Thurman, Hugh Jackman, Kevin Durand, Anna Faris, Christopher Walken, Denis Leary, and Johnny Depp (doesn't everyone love him?).
..
Television
The Simpsons, Family Guy, Law and Order, Law and Order CI (Yay, Vincent D'Onofrio every day!), Law and Order SVU, Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs (Mike Rowe, yum!), shows about tattoos and tattooing, Ninja Warrior (always good for a laugh).
Books
Anything by Lewis Grizzard. Maggie Shayne, and my favorite book is: Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. Wicked, Son of a Witch by Gregory MacGuire. I read anything, everything...
Heroes
My dad- career Army and Vietnam Veteran; police officers, firefighters, nurses, soldiers and the spouses of those people are heros. And all the forgotten veterans of the past wars. People who pursue their dreams- no matter how big or how small they may be. ..Diehard Engineers Big Red One website....
This is long, you might want to fetch a beverage first...
I am a mother of three teens. I do tarot card and palm readings under the name of "Tala Gladstone". Tala is Native American for "wolf" and Gladstone is a town in my favorite country- Australia. I've been doing readings for over ten years- publicly for around five years. I do readings whenever Earthsong Books and Gifts asks (in Janesville) and for the Renassaince Faire in May. But, I do them for individuals and for parties as well. To schedule a reading, I can be contacted through here or via email- tala_gladstone*at*yahoo*dot*com
I have been "this way" for as long as I can remember. I've always had the ability to "feel" people. When I reached my teens, I realized that it wasn't "normal" and I forced myself to ignore what I felt and what was going on around me. I have friends from high school who never knew I could do this. I was in my early 20s when I found the name for what I could do- empath. I am an empath psychic with some medium abilities. I can't automatically pick up on those who have crossed over, but they've come to me during readings or have appeared and/or spoke to me at times. My readings are usually based in the person's emotions and I simply use the Tarot cards as a focusing tool to help me in the reading.
I follow a pagan path, inspired mostly by Native American beliefs in animals, animal spirits and the Earth. I follow the sabbats of paganism/Wicca because one of my daughters is Wiccan. I'm also what could be called a natural witch. I do spells with crystals and herbs- mostly for healing, protection, and wish-fulfillment. I did all this for years without ever calling myself a "witch" because I thought that I didn't deserve that title. It was an online friend who is a witch who convinced me otherwise. Sometimes, people are just born into it, she'd said, and she asked me during a chat when I was going to just "admit it" and accept that it was who I am. And she was right.
I'm married to my high school sweetheart. He suffered a massive stroke when he was 28 years old (April 13, 1995). He walks with a limp, cannot use his right hand or arm, and has speech and communication disorders. The stroke was caused by a blood disorder that the Veteran's Administration finally linked to his time in the First Gulf War (Operation Desert Shield/Storm 1991). Despite these disabilities, he builds things from wood- patio furniture mostly. I have an album here on the MySpace with pictures of his work.
Till recently (2004-ish), I was an active and outdoorsy type of person. I'm now suffering through some medical turmoil that has caused me to walk with a cane (sometimes with two canes). March 18, 2009, I had a total knee replacement surgery- I was 39 years old. I have very few real-life friends, a result of a disabled spouse and now my own health issues. Most of my friendships are of the "imaginary Internet" kind. So, if you feel like adding me as a friend, go for it. Be warned, as a 40 year old on the MySpace, I tend to fill out a lot of surveys.
I collect books on everything from the Civil War to paranormal/psychic. I have countless movies and CDs as well. I tend to talk too much, if I meet someone in person, they're hard pressed to get me to shut up. I love tattoos and have (so far) 8 tattoos.
My son is a second degree black belt in tae kwon do. He's Kukkiwon and AKA certified and I'm his biggest fan. He started training in MMA fighting a couple years ago. My oldest daughter was an honor roll student (for every year since they started using letter grades) and she wants to be a tattoo artist. She's an awesome artist. My youngest daughter (also honor roll) wants to be a teacher so she "can help people". She used to want to be a doctor, but the gross-out factor was too much for her.
We have four cats (Chewbacca, Tiger, Arwen, Samantha), a German Shepherd (Gypsy), three Chihuahuas (Luna and Jasper, and their first offspring- Bruno), one Budgie (a green/yellow one named Brisbane), and we have a gerbil named Horenzo.
It always scares me to find these people on my list. I try to trust people, but considering that this person is someone from my high school church, I can't say that I'm surprised.
I'm also feeling bad that the Chicago snopester meet didn't come together....
How are you feeling? Think you'd be able to do one in the next year?
