Psicotropia nació en Madrid en verano de 1999, con el ánimo de trabajar sobre una corriente musical de carácter experimental y de vanguardia, como alternativa al actual estancamiento de ideas y valores del mercado del rock.
Comenzaron tocando versiones de King Crimson y componiendo temas propios. En julio de 2000, Psicotropia presentó el trabajo de un año en un concierto en la sala Siroco de Madrid que resultó un rotundo éxito para crítica y público. Continuaron su trabajo durante el año siguiente, realizando diversas actuaciones en festivales y prestigiosos locales madrileños: Ritmo & Compás, Caracol, Siroco, San Juan Evangelista, La Boca del Lobo, La Buena Dicha, I Jornadas de Barrio de la Prospe, Festival Arquitectura 2001, etc... Durante este año se sumaron como componentes ocasionales Nacho Cuevas a la voz, flauta travesera y armónica e Iván Caramés al violonchelo.
Durante los años 2002 y 2003, realizaron la grabación autoproducida de su primer disco, que fue presentado en la sala Ritmo & Compás el 31 de enero de 2003, dentro de la Primera Fiesta del Rock Progresivo Español junto con el grupo Omni. El disco Psicotropia es distribuido a nivel internacional por las casas discográficas Luna Negra Records y Musea Records, en EEUU, Latinoamérica, Europa y Japón.
Durante el año 2004 y ya conformados como trío, Psicotropia participó en la VIII edición del festival de rock BajaProg, en la ciudad de Mexicali, Baja California, en México, compartiendo cartel con legendarias bandas y músicos de rock. Asímismo, grabaron la música incidental compuesta por Santi Ibarretxe para la banda sonora de la película Muertos Comunes, de Norberto Ramos del Val, que se estrenó en los cines de toda España el mes de mayo de 2004. En la película también se incluyeron dos temas del primer disco de Psicotropia. Durante el mes de junio de 2004, el grupo participó en la final nacional del prestigioso concurso Emergenza, en la sala Arena de Madrid, donde compitieron las mejores quince bandas de rock de toda España. Psicotropia quedó cuarto mejor grupo de la clasificación nacional, además de recibir los premios a mejor guitarrista, mejor bajista y segundo mejor batería del festival. Otros importantes festivales en los que Psicotropia ha participado durante todo este tiempo son por ejemplo: I, II y III Fiesta Calambrecords, I Festival AlbaRock, Festival ProAgresivo, Festival Crossover, etc. obteniendo siempre una impresionante acogida entre público y crítica.
A lo largo del 2005 Psicotropia ha seguido con su imparable carrera de conciertos a lo largo de toda España (Psicotropia gira primavera 2005, Fiesta del Grog Rock) y el extranjero (Gira septiembre 2005 en EEUU, incluyendo su paso por el festival ProgDay XI en Carolina del Norte). En 2006, Psicotropia ganó el cuarto premio del Concurso Nacional Ritmo&Compás, gracias al cual grabaron su primer videoclip oficial, grabado por Norberto Ramos del Val. En mayo del mismo año, Psicotropia participó tocando en directo en Estela Plateada, tragedia rock dirigida por Álvaro Tato y José Gamo en la RESAD de Madrid. Una edición limitada en DVD de la representación fue publicada por Calambrecords.
A principios de 2007 se ha publicado por fin el segundo disco oficial de Psicotropia, llamado Grog, con las casas discográficas Luna Negra Records y Musea Records en América del Sur, Estados Unidos, Europa y Japón y con Psycofonía Records en España. Durante este año y el siguiente, Psicotropia ha tenido la oportunidad de participar en otros importantes conciertos y festivales como Minnuendö Festival 2007 (España), Crescendo Festival 2008 (France), compartiendo escenario con bandas de renombre internacional como Secret Chiefs 3, Don Caballero, Pendragon, Pain of Salvation, Hawkwind, Cides, Marotta & Bao, Oxygene 8, etc.
En 2009 participaron en el ProgSud Festival (France), compartiendo escenario con bandas como Tony Levin Stick Men, Lazuli, etc. Durante este mismo año han grabado su tercer álbum, Psicotropia³, que será publicado en 2010 con los sellos Luna Negra Records (México), Musea Records (Francia) y Nooirax Producciones para su distribución en España.

Psicotropia was born in Madrid in the summer of 1999, with the purpose of working on a experimental and avant-garde musical trend, as an alternative to the current stagnation of ideas and values in the world of rock.
They began covering King Crimson and composing their own first songs. On July 7th 2000, Psicotropia presented their one-year work in a show at Siroco in Madrid, with a resounding success among critics and audience. They kept on with their work during the next year, doing several shows in prestigious festivals and venues of Madrid. It was then when Nacho Cuevas (vocals, flute and harmonica) and Iván Caramés (cello) joined the band with regular collaborations.
In the period between 2002-2003, they recorded their self-produced first album, presenting it at Ritmo & Compás on January 31th 2003, in the First Party of Spanish Progressive Rock. The album, named after the band, is distributed internationally by Luna Negra and Musea Records labels in USA, South America, Europe and Japan.
During the year 2004, Psicotropia was invited to perform at the VIII edition of the the rock festival BajaProg, in the city of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, sharing the stage with legendary bands and rock musicians. They also recorded the background music (composed by Santi Ibarretxe) for the film Muertos Comunes, directed by Norberto Ramos del Val, released in movie theatres around Spain on May 2004. Two songs of the first Psicotropia album were also included in the film’s soundtrack. During June 2004, the band participated in the final phase of the prestigious contest Emergenza, celebrated in the Arena venue in Madrid, where the best fifthteen rock bands of Spain competed. Psicotropia was the fourth best band in the national clasification and, moreover, they won the best guitar player, best bass player and second best drums player awards of the festival. Other important festivals in which Psicotropia has participated are, among others: I, II and III Calambrecords Festival, I Festival AlbaRock, Festival ProAgresivo, Festival Crossover, etc. always having an impressing reception by critics an audience.
During 2005 Psicotropia has kept its unstoppable shows career all around Spain (Psicotropia Spring tour 2005) and abroad (2005 USA September Tour, including their appereance at the ProgDay XI Festival in North Carolina). In 2006, they won the fourth prize at the National Ritmo & Compás Contest, held in Madrid, thanks to which they have recorded their first official videoclip, directed by Norberto Ramos del Val and launched on the Internet in September 2006. In May of the same year, Psicotropia participated with their live performance in the rock tragedy Estela Plateada (Silver Surfer), directed by Álvaro Tato and José Gamo at the RESAD dramatic art school in Madrid. A limited edition DVD of this gig was released by Calambrecords.
Early 2007, the second official album of Psicotropia, named Grog, has been published with labels Luna Negra Records and Musea Records (for distribution in South and North America, Europe and Japan) and with Psicofonía Records (for distribution in Spain). The album includes the concert DVD Psicotropia Live. In this year and the next one, Psicotropia had the opportunity of participate in other important concerts and festivals such as Minnuendö Festival 2007 (Spain), Crescendo Festival 2008 (France), sharing the stage with well-known international bands such as Secret Chiefs 3, Don Caballero, Pendragon, Pain of Salvation, Hawkwind, Cides, Marotta & Bao, Oxygene 8, etc.
In 2009, they participated in ProgSud Festival (France), sharing the stage with bands such as Tony Levin Stick Men, Lazuli, etc. In this year they have recorded their third album, Psicotropia³, to be released in 2010 with labels Luna Negra Records (Mexico), Musea Records (France) and Nooirax Productions for its distribution in Spain.
