Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and lived there until the age of two then moved to
Cleveland, Ohio. Lived between Cleveland and New York from that point. In that
time young Phyre (soon to be known as Mr. $wift) was just going back and forth
between houses and schools. These frequent changes of scenery helped young
Phyre develop a diverse view of people and environments. YP (abbr. of Young
Phyre) saw and experienced the struggling and ghetto ills living in Cleveland with
his mom, he saw white picket fences and gated communities living in New York
with his dad. Little did YP know this experience would shape his thought and
actions in life and through hip hop. Though he was little YP would sneak
and listen to rap. At that time a.b.c and kriss kross were pretty big, but that
wasnt YPs thing. YP was into N.W.A, LL cool J and Rakim, but he never
thought he could ever do what he was hearing. Then it happened, YP was at
recess and a fellow classmate started free styling on the opposite side of the
parking lot, someone ran over and told YP what was going and then he said oh yea listen to this and belted out a freestyle. The way the bars flew out so fast when he finished YPs classmates looked amazed and gave him the nickname $wift. $wift then hooked up with his god brother tre-k and formed Kaos. They had a little buzz in upstate New York and some small label offers, but internal problems caused a serious riff in the group for $wift and his god brother and the group dissolved in 1996 before signing a major deal. After that $wift moved back to Cleveland to stay and changed his moniker a couple of times before calling his self skhemey because of the way he could con and hustle. Now solo skhemey started recording demos in his room. This led him to the opportunity to have Cash Moneys DJ Whop listen to his demo. The DJ liked it but didnt know what to do with it, so he told skhemey to keep at it, and that is what he did though he found that his name was causing some unwanted notoriety, so he decided to change it one more time. Since everyone in the rap game wants to be considered the hottest MC, what better to call yourself than PHYRE (fire). Soon after the name change Phyre inked a deal with an independent label out of Akron, OH called Getting Paid Records in 2001. Phyre made a couple of songs but never got to drop an album, so he left GPR in 2003. He then helped form a group called the Sekret Cervice, who dropped the street hit Lewinski But the Group decided to just go solo. So he collabs with friend/producer Knoxxx and works on some material. He now also works with Producer Tact and his company KhyKel productions and The "World Famous"Dj Jack Da Rippa and the GoGettaz.
