P. Swayze is rushing the rap game with no regrets and taking no prisoners. This north Long Beach native is definitely here to prove that "The Beach" is still where it's at.
Born in Inglewood and bred in Long Beach, California , P. Swayze came up having to adapt to his surroundings. Living in a city where hustlers and gangsters run the streets, artists like Nas, N.W.A., Ice Cube, and of course Snoop Dogg would contribute to the soundtrack of P.'s life. Who knew that P. Swayze, born Oris Jones, would write and perform the rest of that sound track himself.
"I'm definitely in this rap game for the money, but I'm also in it because I love hip-hop. I love to entertain," Swayze voices while sitting in a leather recliner at In Da Game Studios. "I plan on having longevity in this game. I want to break records. My major goal is to have a song that I wrote for another artist, and my own song be 1 hits at the same time. I want to raise the bar for West Coast lyricists, and change the views of those who doubt West Coast hip hop and it's artists." he says.
"I'm making my own lane. Everything I do is different. I'm going to be the game's breath of fresh air!" he says. There is no doubt P. Swayze is leading his own way, on his own road, and shining his own light on hip hop. His drive is definitely a force to be reckoned with.
P. Swayze played college basketball for Jackson State University. He played with basketball greats like Baron Davis and Tyson Chandler. Even with his athletic abilities being at their peak, music was a huge part of his life. Eventually P. Swayze stopped playing college basketball and committed 100% of his energy to his music.
One night at Club Stevies in Hollywood, P. Swayze had the honor of being brought on stage by fellow west coast representative and lyrical MC Kurupt. "When I spit on stage and everyone felt it," P. says of that night, " I knew that this is what I was meant to do".
The same year, P. Swayze would have a fateful meeting with Givenchy Martin, CEO of In Da Game Entertainment. Martin recalls seeing P. for the first time in the studio, "he was a beast. I liked his hunger and his genuine love for music". From this meeting to the present, P. Swayze has been apart of the In Da Game family.
With performances under his belt at venues like the Highlands, Club 740, Forbidden City, the Day After, 2007 NBA All Star Game, and the 2007 BET award show, P. Swayze is no rookie.
Spitting bars like "Yall niggas bring the heat/ turn your oven on/ sunscreen rub it on/ my tongues like Lebanon," we know P. Swayze's forthcoming album will be a classic. To date, P. Swayze has completed over 200 songs. He is definitely proving himself to the world. Songs with hooks like "I'm a keep it hood/ hood state of mind/ man I love the hood/ I be there all the time," show that he's not a one dimensional artist. "I want someone to get something out of every song I do. I want to represent timeless music and above all else I want to represent hip-hop."
P. Swayze is anxiously awaiting his debut album, due 1st quarter of 2008, but has already dropped mix-tapes including, "Overseeing the Beach" Vol. 1 and 2, Larger Than Life and has been featured on the BET 2007 Awards mix tape hosted by Clinton Sparks as well as all of the unmentioned In DA Game archives. Big names in the game such as Fabian Duvernay, formerly a Marketing Executive at Capital Records, are co-signing P.'s talent. "If I had an opportunity to do things independently I would definitely put my money on P." says Duvernay.
