Samuel - Metallica, Pink Floyd, Megadeth. Brinley - Muse, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine. Steven - Iron Maiden, Jason Newsted, Cannibal Corpse, Burzum, Slayer, etc... Ed - Muse
The origin of Psychedelica can be traced back to the year 2006 when Guitarist/Songwriter Samuel Jackson, and Drummer Harley Harper got together in their hometown of St. Ives , Cornwall. Joined shortly afterwards by Guitarist Ed Sirl the line-up was completed with the addition of bassist Steve Elmslie, so that by the autumn of 2008 Psychedelica was born. In the summer of 2009, sadly, Harley left the band and was replaced by current drummer Brinley Hall, in this latest incarnation of the band.
Psychedelica is all about the music. In their live shows they play the original tracks from their first album 'Pompeii', as well as classic covers of Jimi Hendrix, Cream and Black Sabbath. The set also feature Sam performing technical guitar showpieces by Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert and Buckethead. All these artists along with Metallica, Pink Floyd and Muse have influenced them, as they look to make a new fresh take on classic heavy guitar rock, giving a harder edge to 70’s psychedelia.
The band is led by Songwriter/Guitarist 16 yr old Samuel Jackson, who was not named after the actor! Sam started playing classical guitar at the age of 7, moving on to electric when he was 12. Since then he has developed a prodigious technique playing tracks by Steve Vai and Buckethead as a part of the bands set. He played guitar and sang in several bands before forming Psychedelica and writes all their original material.
Drummer 17 year old Brinley Hall has been playing drums since he was 12 and has been playing in bands since he began drumming. His last band was an indie punk outfit UnEntitled, this came to an end in 2007, and since then he has been building on his archive of drum videos on Youtube (www.youtube.com/brinleyhall). He joined the band in August 2009, having been friends with Ed for many years. He plays Mapex Saturn series Drums and Paiste Cymbals. His style is undoubtably relaxed, but it seems to get the job done!!!
Bassist 22 yr old Steven Elmslie started playing bass when he was 18 and is self taught. Originally playing for fun, he was inspired by the playing of Jason Newsted to take a more serious approach to his playing. He met Samuel through a previous band, in which Sam played guitar. This band broke up after a couple of gigs and Steve joined the more serious musical project, 'Psychedelica'!
Guitarist 16 yr old Ed Sirl is a multi-instrumentalist who has been taught the classical guitar from the age of 5 and now also plays the electric guitar, flute, keyboards and bassoon. He became interested in the effects side of guitar playing, after listerning to Muse, using different techniques to produce a wide range of sounds. He joined Psychedelica originally auditioning on bass, but later moved on to rhythm guitar.
