Psycho Carnival is the biggest international rock fest that happens in Brazil during Carnival. It has taken place in Curitiba-PR traditionally for 9 years.
Its 1st edition took place in 1999, and it was a single-day event. The French band Skatafiles took part of the festival, showing the intention of being an international fest since its beginning. As the public and the interest increased on the following edition, the festival became a weekender in its 3rd edition, with an average audience of 800 people a night, and with many more international attractions.
The festival is an option for those who love rock and roll, and don’t fit in the traditional Carnival. It has also brought several people from other places in Brazil, South America, Europe and the USA to Curitiba, which promoted an intense cultural exchange.
For its peculiarity, Psycho Carnival has been receiving more and more special attention from the Brazilian media as the years go by.
On its seven previous editions, great psychobilly bands from different places in Brazil (São Paulo, Londrina, Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro and Florianópolis) and abroad (Holland, France, Germany, Chile, the USA and Switzerland) took part in the festival.
THE VENUE
On this 2009 edition an audience of approximately 4.000 people is expected between February 19th and 23th .
In parallel to the concerts, there will be the usual merchandise & accessories fair.
THE ATRACTIONS
Psychobilly Corporation is proud to present part of the line-up for Psycho Carnival 2009, 10th edition that has been taking over Curitiba’s carnival for the past 9 years! The festival is growing on an annual basis, and this time it couldn’t be different. We are bringing, straight from UK, one of the greatest and most important psychobilly bands of all time: KLINGONZ, which is considered by many to have the best psychobilly show out there today!!
We have one more great headliner for the PSYCHO CARNIVAL 2009!!! FRANTIC FLINTSTONES with their new line up with the brazilian selection of great musicians!!!
It doesn't stop here, CHIBUKU and CENOBITES comes all the way from the Europe to show their strong, fast and furious psychobilly for the psycho carnival crowd!
Well, and there..s even more and more bands coming to Brazil for the festival! And two of them come from Mexico!!! Yes! LOS HELLDANDYS AND WICKED are coming "calientes" for this great party!!!
We are also having two South American bands: SALIDOS DE LA CRIPTA from Colombia and LOS PRIMITIVOS, playing their rockabilly from Argentina!
Additionally, from the USA, TABALTIX!!! a really new and promising band from San Francisco and the Denmark and American band THE WRECKING DEAD!!!!
As for Brazilian bands, SICK SICK SINNERS, OVOS PRESLEY, CHERNOBILLIES, the all-girl psychobilly band AS DIABATZ, HOT RODS, and much, much more!!!!
We are soon to announce some other good surprises for this year’s carnival! It is worth reminding that, besides all these bands, we are once again having the traditional parallel activities a day-time show that takes place in the ruins of an ancient church, and the opening party! We are arranging several other events for the carnival period, such as the Psycho Soccer Cup, a lecture, and, if everything goes according to plan, rock & psychobilly-directed workshops!

The organization of the fest, besides being part of the “Campaign of Araucaria Forests Preservation”, in this edition will collect non-perishable foods to donate to the “Pro-Citizenship Institute of Curitiba”, hoping to make its part to build a better society.
